Every Indesit I’ve seen up to 25 years old has had IPX4 on a label on the back……

Scott did a great explanation of this mysterious number, that often gets quoted as a model number by customers looking for parts, last year on the DASA web forum.

Sorry Dave , I couldn’t find it again but it was as Mark noted an enquiry using it as a model no.
Penguin on the ball as usual 🙂 .
Splashproof eh?………..I take it that’s only from the outside of the appliance then 😉Tony C

I have just read the article again (properly), and feel that we should persuade the Indesit Company to uprate their product to IPX7 (waterproof to 1 metre). Then we could test the product to destruction in seconds……… Well, at least for those customers with swimming pools, anyway.
Hmm… Would it be testing, disposal or a mercy killing?

I think if you look hard enough it’s on all Italian appliances.
I wonder if IPX1 is “not waterproof to internal leaks”? Or even “under any circumstances”. The codes must start somewhere and seem to demand more protection the higher they go.

HI EVERYBODY I’M NOT A REGULAR VISITOR.
the ip stands for ingress protection. these codes are applicable in pat testing. there is such a thing as a standardised test finger. basically the idea is that you’d use this finger to attempt to touch potentially live parts through the appliance casing or the guard on electric fire etc. of course it should never be possible to do this. as you say the lower the number the less protection is available.
if anyone wants to know in detail i’ll dig out the code of practice and post the lower ratings.regards keith
