ParticipantAccording to a search on Kelkoo for washing machines ranked in quietness, there is only one washing machine in the quietest category (under 40dB) and that’s a Hotpoint

That was a shock. Surely not?

No idea Andy but I keep trying to tell people that those readings are misleading as the enviroment that the machine is placed in (any machine) can affect the noise level far more than the db rating given which will be recorded under controlled conditions.

Recent EU legislation requires some European countries to state the noise levels of their domestic appliance products. Here in the UK it is not a requirement as yet and remains voluntary. It is likely therefore that those machines that already have the noise level listed in their specification were in fact a product of a EU member country that has to comply with the regulations.
Below is a guide to show noise levels in dB(A) : –
dB(A)
140 Harmful to hearing Jet engine 25m away; Shotgun blast
130 Threshold of pain Jet takeoff 100m away
120 Disco; Propeller aircraft
110 Possible hearing loss Live band; Jet takeoff 600m away
100 Electric mower; Pneumatic drill; Tractor
90 Open top car ride on motorway; Food blender; Heavy traffic 5m away
80 Very noisy Alarm clock; Sink garbage disposal
70 Upper limit for hearing conversation Vacuum cleaner; Private car
60 Conversation at 1m; Singing birds
50 Quiet Light traffic 30m away; Quiet office
40 Dripping tap; Library
30 Very quiet Soft whisper at 5m
20 Broadcasting studio
10 Leaves rustlingReference: http://www.dti.gov.uk/innovation/strd/ecdirect/page12527.html

Well so far, all the hotpoint supersilent machines I supplied (including my one at home) are not quiet. They should be quiet at the full spin but it bloody makes more noise than it should do.To be honest I am not happy with these Hotpoints,as they charge you a lot for those machines and then we have to call the engineers two three times to come and tighten the bolts and still no go.
Maybe other people have good experience with them
