ParticipantI’ve got a zanussi wjd1257w, it dates from late 2002. So far I’ve replaced the motor bushes and the pump over the last few years. Now it’s getting noisy on spin and feels a bit lumpy when spun by hand.
I’m guessing it’s the bearings failing and as it’s a nice old machine the tub can be split so they can be replaced.
The question is, is it worth the cost, time and effort to do it on a machine of this age? How well do bits like the control electronics last?
Plus is there a repair manual available anywhere? All the guides I’ve seen are for washers, not washer dryers and it seems to have a lot more plumbing and bits inside than on the videos. I’m happy to spend a day doing it and take photos along the way so I can put it back together, it’s just the order to take it apart.

It’s a challenge for you for sure. 13 yr old machine, blimey!
Rear panel removal, disconnect all hoses, remove rear weight, motor and heater connections. Release door seal from front panel. Remove damper pins and unhook springs. Lift whole ruddy lot out the back before even getting close to the bearings.
Chances are if it feels “lumpy” then the shaft will be in a right state too. So changing the bearings, tub and shaft seal will most likely only give you a few extra months life.
As for the electronics, keep your fingers firmly crossed you don’t refit all the removed wires in wrongly on reassembly!
Have fun! 😉

If lumpiness indicates a damaged shaft I’ll get a spider as well. Puts the total cost of parts up to about £80. Any idea if a bearing kit comes with grease?
The other bits were easy enough and I’ve had the car door apart to replace the lock and replaced the mid position valve on the central heating so I’ll just set aside plenty of time and make sure the washing is up to date before I start.
At the moment it’s a choice of fixing it or buying a cheap replacement where I would worry about it lasting 3 years with the use it gets.
Plus, while it’s apart I can give it a proper clean, no doubt it’s full of gunge.

That kit doesn’t come with grease, most don’t and whilst you can get away without using grease it is generally accepted as preferable to use it.
It’s here: http://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/universa … ant-grease

Cheers for your advice. Other stuff got in the way but the parts arrived yesterday and then the bearings collapsed. But it’s all done and dusted now, took about 6 hours over 2 evenings.
