I have had my kitchen refitted by a fitter I have used before. He subs to an electrician for the electrical work. They have fitted a Lamona electric oven and hob. But there is no control switch for the electric oven and hob which is fitted inside a Howden’s unit – so not easy to pull out and find a plug – assuming there is one back there. I texted him on Friday and he said he’d speak to the electrician but I haven’t heard. I would like to know if there is any situation where it is actually okay to have an electric oven you can only turn off on the appliance, with no external, reachable control switch or plug and socket? Also the electrician didn’t leave a safety cert – another query I chased up in my text. Is this legal and if not, what should I do if they don’t come back to me? I only have my fitter’s name and address, not the electrician’s. Thank you for any advice. (PS can’t turn off my washing machine either except on the appliance.)

The oven/hob insulation switch should be in the immediate vacinity of the appliance. Usually translated as being on the same wall, in a cupboard alongside, above or below the appliance. In any event there will always be an accessible isolation switch somewhere.

Thank you. I’ll try to find out where it is.
