ParticipantI got a hotpoint aquarius tvm570 tumble dryer and the other day it started to make a noise like a coin was going around the drum but there was nothing in the drum when I removed the clothes 🙁 So today I thought I would take a look to see where the noise was coming from but when I turned the dryer on it started to smoke 😯 So I pulled the dryer out and there was about a cup full of water in the vent hose due to the vent hose being twisted going through the cupboard.
Would anyone know what I need to check or Is my tumble dryer ruined.

The “started to smoke” is a concern. With the dryer removed from the vent hose and switched on, will it run?

It was running before it started to smoke but I haven’t tried it without the pipe as it frightened the shit out of me. My girlfriend did say the other day that the clothes wasn’t drying very good but would this be because the pipe was twisted and the water was going back in the dryer.

The noise could well be the drum seized and consequently the motor burnt out. If the smell was of burning rubber then the drum seized and the belt broke. Smell of burning shellac and the motor is a gonna. Either way only by going in to look what’s happened will that stop us guessing.

When it was smoking it didn’t have any smell so could water have got on to the heater element. I’ve taken the top off and the belt is fine but when you turn the drum you can hear creaking on the right hand side. I will try and take the side panel off later to see if I can see anything.

I’ve taken the side panel off but where should I be looking as there is no signs of burning and the drum turns freely.

So maybe it was steam you saw and NOT smoke? A blocked or restricted vent pipe with create…… steam 😉

I’ve removed the heater element cover and there was small bits of plastic in between the drum and back panel and also a small bit was stuck to the heating element,So I tried to remove the plastic from the heating element but the metal strip that goes through the springs has broken on two elements.
