ParticipantSo I’m sitting there in front of the box and up pops a Currys advert , Beko washers £150. Will I get through another year? Think £25 of that is VAT so who’s making any money new or repairs?
Compliments of the season Wilf

Take out the taxes, margins and so on and you might, maybe be looking at a machine that cost £80 to build and that’s being optimistic.
But the punters will still think it should last for ten years faultlessly. :rolls:

I suspect Currys often make no money on the product sale, but hope to cash in on add-ons once the customer is in-store.
By way of example, my parents in law recently bought a TV from Currys priced at around £600. However, they came out of the store having paid about £1200. Persuasive reps had talked them into buying expensive HDMI cables (two of different lengths charged for but only one supplied!), calibration DVD, extended warranty and upgrade to their Sky package, none of which they actually needed. Needless to say, I went back into the store with my father in law and they readily arranged for all the extras to be refunded.

Edit. Just seen American style refrigerator on tv £399. How long will that last? Mine has just had it’s 20th birthday.

I said same day free removal with us. Customer walked out saying well I wil to Currys. ??? 2 days later he is back buying our dryer as Currys had put it up to £229… Lol we sold out so I said it’s £219 now.. dicks.January 20, 2018 at 10:39 am #452588Martin
