    Hi All

Have been to customer today reporting a leak from her Whirlpool awg5122.
She has had machine 15 months and does remember noticing a bit of water underneath before but not enough to worry her till now.
On investigation I have found one of the transit bolts must have been left in by her husband on installation(OOOOPs) and it has left a 2cm hole in the top corner of the outer drum.
Machine has had little use and seems a shame to write off but a search on this forum suggests a rear half at 173gbp, along with my labour will bring the bill almost to the origonal cost of the machine.
Should I be even thinking of putting a patch on the drum(either fibreglass or plexus) or scrap it?
    Thanks
    John

    Re: Is this Ber??

Id repair it with some putty metal or if the hole is quite big some fibre glass and epoxy resin. The fact its at the top means there is less chance of any problems with repair. Must have been banging about all over the place with transit bolt left in.

    Re: Is this Ber??

Sounds like quite a large hole, I have had good success using metal putty as subs suggested combined with a thin metal plate (coke can) held on with short self tapping screws, better to self tap than drill unless you have the thinest of drills, then a layer of debor over that.

As always its about weighing the potential risks, but up at the top of the tank should be ok.

Agree with what’s been said so far. What you need is a mechanical repair to give durability combined with a sealant/ filler to make it water-tight.
