My Hotpoint under counter freezer (model RZ63N) will now only freeze on fast freeze mode and defrosts completely when this is switched off. The red temperature warning light has not illuminated at any stage since this fault developed. Is this the result of a faulty thermostat and could a competent person replace this themselves?. An engineer callout is half the price of a new freezer and would not be worth it on a 7 year old applicance. Grateful for any advice.

Yes, it sounds like the thermostat that’s faulty and most of them are fairly easy to replace. With the power off of course.

An email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk should get you the part.
