Is water in a dishwasher softened and then stored for the next time the machine is used?

I have a Bosch SGS46E22 and wasn’t too clear if I was reading the explanation of a water softening unit {link} correctly.

    No!

The hard water passing through the ion exchanger removes the calcium and magnesium ions. Hard water in, soft water out. 😉

With a dishwasher the volume of water is regulated so that during each and every complete wash cycle the ion exchanger is ‘recharged’ and ready for the next lot of hard water to pass through the repeated process.

    HTH? 😀
