ParticipantAnyone have trouble with this? When we first got the machine we struggled a little but then learnt a “knack” to shutting it – door almost shut and then a sharp jab to close it.
Now it seems to be getting tricker and needs a sharper and more forceful jab, so much so that it feels I’m being more forceful than ideal with such a well designed, expensive, piece of kit.
I’ve had a little read and see a few people have struggled – I read about trying to “reset” the lock by pulling on the red emergency cable by the pump access but no improvement. It seems to often just “not catch” requiring progressively more forceful jabs.
I wonder should I try some sort of grease? Is it just the way it is? Do I have a fault requiring a call? We can still get it to shut, don’t get me wrong, but it’s an increasing struggle. My wife couldn’t shut it today requiring me to be more forceful… (edit – with the machine, not my wife…!)
Regards,
Andy

Hi Andy,
If you feel it’s a little stiff an old, old trick with the Asko built machines is a smear and, I do mean a smear, of Vaseline (of all things but it works best as it doesn’t dry out and is non-colouring and whatnot) on the latch and the door catch.
It just helps it move a little easier but if that doesn’t help then it may be best to have it checked.

hi,
I am not sure about the 1606 model but the with 1607 i found that if i just keep pushing for that little bit longer, due to the door being connected to the drum obviously, that the latch/catch will ‘lock-in’ fine 🙂
I could not find a ‘knack’ as such, just tried it again now :rolls:
Probably of no use to anyone :rolls:

Thanks, the Vaseline seems to have actually done the trick. I was dubious, but the door is now shutting with much less trial and tribulation.
Thanks again.

I felt the same – I mentioned it here a little while ago. I think I’ll look more closely at the latch and maybe try some vaseline.

You should try – I’ve been opening and shutting the door this evening and it’s made a real difference – I was convinced something was seriously amiss.
Bizarrely I can now shut the door without the jab but just by pushing slowly back against the drum and it catches – we’ve never been able to do that.
I only used a small amount of vaseline on the “prong” bit and placed a small amount at the opening and opened and closed a few times.
The force required before did not feel right at all.

We don’t know why it works although there are a few theories.
The Swedes don’t understand either. I just got a very befuddled look when I mentioned it.
But it does work, as you said, bizarrely. And, I know it sounds really odd but, if it works…
And I must also pass on some thanks to eastlmark from Anglia Electrics for the tip.
