ParticipantBeen to this machine, but no fault found.
Reported fault: burning/smoking, smells electrical.
True enough machine smelt really bad, 20 hours after being unplugged.
Certainly an electrical smell, more motor than plastic.
I have inspected motor, invertor board, fascia board etc, etc.
I can’t find a thing wrong with it.
Has anyone else had similar?

Well I’m none the wiser….
The customer has done five washes since my visit and all is well. 😮
He says there is still a lingering electrical smell but nothing as strong as when he switched it off Friday afternoon.
Fingers crossed anyway.
I told him that I’m away for a fortnight from next week so I’m sure I will get a last minute panic call from him???

KeymasterSorry Tim, I missed this.
Not a problem that’s known to me and there’s been none reported like that that I am aware of. 😕

Well I’ve been back to this one today.
No burning smell just that its sticking on 14 minutes. It was full of clean water and agitating. The customer left it going for 45 minutes and it still was saying 14 minutes.
I told him to switch it off. When I got there I put it back on and the machine was just agitating and the time wasn’t going down.
I cancelled the programme and put on spin. All ok. I’ve just done a quick wash and thats ok as well. When the customer had the burning smell he had the same issue with the cycle sticking at 14 minutes as well. Interesting??

KeymasterThat’s just plain weird Tim!
I’m a bit stuck for an explanation.

Me too.
Luckily he’s a long standing customer who is level headed. Probably shouldn’t have said that.
He’s willing to continue using the machine but obviously wants answers.
I kept him happy that if the EXACT problem happened again I would ask ISE to put it to ASKO to see if they have any ideas.
My post was more as a record of events than anything else.p.s. I haven’t raised a job for either of these visits, just in case people think i’m taking the p***.

I will ask ASKO tech if you like, not a problem.
Have you done a reset of the board, just in case? Anything show as being weird on the installation? Mains okay, not in a remote location or something odd?
Just checking.

P.S. Cute. If I can prove a fault, I can prove a claim. And, I never assume anyone is taking the proverbial unless I know they are. Sometimes the insurer doesn’t agree with my instinct though.
If only you guys knew how many calls I fought your corner on. :rolls:

I have just taken a call for a machine that we did not supply and they(The customer)would like us to go out.
They are getting a burning smell on a ISE10 and because it is some distance away would like to know more info before i arrive.

You’ve jinxed me;
never did get to the bottom of the burning, but the customer phoned today saying he’s getting an intermittant F3 error.
At the moment I’m not linking the problems, i’m hoping he’s blocked it somewhere, even though he’s checked the filter.
This visit will be number three. He’s starting to get a bit peeved.
Oh well nothing like testing customer / engineer relations.
As I’m typing he’s just been on the phone again….stuck with 10 minutes to go, full of water but no error code……

Cheers Tim
So did the burning smell just fade away over a period of time 😕

ParticipantRe: ISE 10 washing machine
Yep. The burning smell was only apparent upon the first visit, since then no more reports of burning.
That dosen’t help much does it!

We had a customer some time ago, who complained of a burning smell the first few times she used it. We went out and checked it over and couldn’t fault it. That was over a year ago and haven’t heard a peep since.(touch wood).

KeymasterRe: ISE 10 washing machine
Intermittent F3 is most likely….
Something in the drain hose acting as a flap valve, a coin is the favourite.
Something in the pump not correctly cleared.
Damaged eco ball retention ring, caused by foreign objects.
Overdosing detergent, excess foam, pressure sensor held on suds lock.
Eco ball stuck due to gunk/detergent residue from overdosing.
See, I am useful on occasion… only some mind. 😉
Burning smells, TBH there’s been no real issues that I am aware of although on first use it is possible that the motor could heat the coating on it which might smell, dunno, I’m taking a punt on that one.

Thanks for the reply K. I was only really posting in answer to kladave’s post.
It was such a strange coincidence he posted on the day I had a call back from the customer.
I don’t want you thinking I need help to teach much grandma to suck eggs.
