ModeratorJust had this customer on the phone and wondered if anyone else has encountered this fault.
She said she loaded the washing and detergent, switched the power button on, closed the door and the machine started to run before she had selected a programme and pressed the start button???
She is fairly compos mentis and has had the machine over 3 years so I’m guessing it is a pcb fault rather than user error. :con:

Tell her to reset it first Jim.
Other than that, not really. I think I vaguely recall something like this but it is but a vague recollection. 😕

Reset???
One problem with very reliable machines is not having to do anything like this.
I have looked through the user manual and can find no reference to a ‘reset’ procedure.
The service manual whilst comprehensive doesn’t appear to list a ‘reset’ procedure.
The only reference I can see to a reset is to clear fault codes, ( bottom of page 38)
The Service Menu is not at all clear for the WM70.1, ( page 35) it shows the buttons in a different position and also appears to show test procedures using the lights around the control knob which the earlier ISE 10 had but this one does not?

Customer has just done a reset without success, turning the control knob will not alter the programmes?

Okay.
In that case it could be pretty much anything really.
The thermistor wet or contacts gunked up can do it.
Inverter card possible.
Door lock possible.
Level sensor, as thermistor.

Will have to see what transpires tomorrow morning. 🙂
I seem to remember her saying that it actually started the programme.
If it does start and continue to do a wash cycle that would suggest to me that the control PCB is more likely to be at fault than the inverter pcb/door lock/pressure switch and even the thermistor. :con:

No, not really.
The boards on them are exceptionally robust Jim, they rarely fail. If they do there’s usually something that has caused them to fail.
Moisture on the contacts of the LV side of things can cause all manners of odd faults and symptoms. People change the board, problem rights but returns all too often as that wasn’t where it originally lay.

Customers both mid 70’s in good health so no heavy use, in a dry laundry room.
Fault exactly as described, switch on via on/off switch, display shows 1-14 mins, control knob light Quick, 95 degrees and 1600 spin all lit, none of the buttons responded and turning the knob had no effect.
Close the door and it starts to fill without the start button being pressed.
I did a reset which had no effect.
Checked all components for signs of dampness, corrosion etc, all perfect.
Removed control panel and a visual check revealed no problems. I removed the control knob and sprayed a small amount of high grade switch cleaner behind it.
Refitted and at first it appeared to have made no difference ( don’t think the cleaner had any effect TBH )
I then switched it on, closed the door and allowed it to continue.
It filled and started to wash, timer counted down to 1-12 mins then I pressed and held the Start/Stop button.
The temp setting changed to 60 degrees, a small amount of water came in and then the display went to 59 mins and the machine stopped dead.
I was then able to alter the programmes, use all of the buttons and to all intents and purposes the machine appears to be working correctly.
Tried a few different settings and it worked fine. :con:
It appears that the controls had somehow locked up. ❓

Odd Jim.
Last one I had that did odd stuff like that was when a punter spilled coffee or something on it.
All I can suggest is to try the board but I can’t see how it can do that.

Not sure I can charge them for ‘magic fingers’ 😉
A bit concerned as to what CSS might say though. 🙁 -
