ParticipantI set my machine on a Normal wash, 40 deg, 1200 spin. When I went to see if it had finished the time showed 1 minute to go and the machine was agitating, so thought on final rinse. However, 20 minutes later it was still showing 1 minute and still agitating. I looked in drawer and it had not used the conditioner. I have stopped it and done drain and spin.
Any ideas as to why it got ‘stuck’?

KeymasterHiya,
It sounds as if it was trying to sort the load for spin (like all modern machines it has to balance the load) and couldn’t. If that happens the machine will try for an extended period to get it to balance and, if it can’t, it will abort the spin to avoid vibration.

Hi there,
It wasn’t trying to spin, I know what you are describing, but that wasn’t happening. It was just ‘washing’ if you know what I mean. Still had all the water in it, hadn’t drained so wasn’t attempting a spin cycle. Don’t know how long it had been like this as machine is downstairs in a utility and main living area is upstairs, so didn’t notice. Let’s just suppose you are right and it was trying to spin, why was it showing 1 minute left when it hadn’t used the conditioner?
Also, when I reset the machine and selected Drain and Spin, there was no problem with balancing the load, it just drained and did a spin.

As I am not sure whether the machine even reached a rinse cycle or got stuck on the wash one, I am going to run it through a Quick Wash without detergent and see if that works.
Do you think this will be OK?

It worked, absolutely no problem.
Do you have any idea why the machine should get stuck as it did? I would like to know, particularly if it’s anything I’ve done wrong though can’t think what.
Still, at least I’ve got extemely clean clothes now!

How much washing was in the machine ?
I found a couple of times it stopped and when i pulled some of the waterlogged washing out the entire load was pretty damn heavy so maybe the load was too heavy during the main wash cycle so it didnt progress ??

I didn’t think it was overloaded but maybe the machine thinks different! If that was the case why did it work OK on a Quick wash? I find this machine very spooky, it’s got a mind of it’s own!

Mine did exactly the same yesterday!
It was still in the wash cycle, as the water was clearly very soapy. Like you, I stopped the machine and started a rinse and spin cycle. Not sure that completed correctly as it added the rinse water to what was already in the drum, then drained, then went straight into spin. Ran a second rinse as the washing was still full of detergent.
Could be something to do with overloading. It was a full load of towels, although there was still room to fit my hand between them and the top of the drum. Ran another couple of loads through later in the day and all seems back to normal.

KeymasterHi guys,
It could also be to much foam confusing the pressure sensor. To stop that happening just reduce the detergent dose a bit.

Hi: As with all Washing machines, if they are overloaded then they are unable to complete the cycle properly. From the descriptions given then I would have to say that your problems are due to overloading / unbalanced loads & not machine faults.

Are there you are kwatt!
Take both points about machine being overloaded, although I didn’t think it was. As I say, it went through a Quick wash OK. So why not Normal one? Doesn’t stack up for me.
Also, have only had this machine for a few months and, as it cost so much, I am really looking after it. I measure the detergent and as we are in a soft water area hardly use any at all. I clean the machine on a 95 deg wash once a month and check filter regularly. I dry out the drawer after every wash and leave it slightly open. Door is left ajar as well. So it has plenty of tlc!
One thing we haven’t been able to do though is get the little black tube off and are frightened to give it a good yank in case we break it.
Also, you mentioned in a post on Moneysaving Forum I think, that one of your engineers mentioned not to use conditioner? As just adding gunk.
Any advice on using or not? Many thanks to everyone for all their help and advice, greatly appreciated.

I wonder if that could have been the case then. Had the machine for less than a month so I’m still experimenting with detergent doses, but now down to half the recommended amount and still seeing a lot of foam. When the machine got stuck in the wash cycle there was more foam than I’ve ever seen in the drum!
Certainly not complaining – will save a fortune on detergent costs over the lifetime of the machine 😀

KeymasterThe 1607 uses a lot less than the recommended dose and you’re spot on, it will save a fortune.

Hi guys,
I live in a hard water area and i am only using 55ml of powder with superb results, the recommended amount is 135ml!
So if you live in a soft water area you can reduce the amount even further, down to 25ml in Brighouse, West Yorkshire apparently 😀
I would presume yours machines are suffering over-foaming if you are using the recommended dosage by the manufacturers, if i, in my hard water area, can reduce my powder so much and still have excellent results 😀

Best wishes to all,

I’m in a very hard water area. Started with 120ml, reduced to 100ml, then 80ml. Sounds like 60ml should be the next step. At this rate the 6.4kg bargain box of Ariel will last for years!
