I am moving into my first house soon, was researching washing machines last night and came across the ISE brand: this is exactly the sort of brand I was looking for – so far, so good!

    Two questions:
    1. Can somebody please recommend one of either the ISE 2, 5 or 10 for two people, probably 2-3 loads per week.
    Here are my current musings:
    – Seems like the ISE 10 is a lot of money for such light usage, but I do like the idea of a machine built to last 20 years.
    – The ISE 5 was my first choice, but looks like this is discontinued for the time being. Any updates on the status of this model?
    – I read on this forum I think that the ISE 2 is designed for light usage: would this be up to the job and what might a reasonable expected lifespan be at my usage rate? Also, I can’t seem to find it for sale on the UK Whitegoods website: am I missing something?

    2. Is it necessary to be in range of an official ISE support engineer (if there is such a specific beast)? I live on the Isle of Lewis and I’m not sure whether I could get the necessary support here. Would my local washing machine repair man be able to get parts quickly and do any repairs? (As an aside, my remote location also puts me off buying the likes of Miele, as it seems these often require specific Miele engineers to diagnose and fix problems and I wonder about the logistics of getting one here.)

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Re: ISE 2, 5 or 10 for 2-3 loads per week?

    Hi Toby,

I’ll try to keep this as short as I can…

Due to the world apparently going into meltdown, but more the value of the Pound crashing we were forced to review the 2 and 5 range. The outcome of that revision is what’s happening now which we feel is the best result for the customer.

The ISE5 is suspended for the moment until either the Pound gets a lot stronger or a machine that we think is up to the task becomes available at the right price point. We are quite moralistic about this sort of thing and we don’t agree with selling what we would consider to be not of the quality that we like just to keep sales up.

It may be hard to believe that a company would do that, but there you have it.

To that end we are introducing, later this month, a new ISE2 badged machine that is, we feel, better than the current ISE5 in some ways. In fact, it only really loses out on the spin as it drops from 1600rpm to 1400rpm on the new one.

The good news is that there’s a few extra features and, we feel, a better build.

There is more good news as well as, since the warranty drops from 5 to 2 years the price does as well, to £399 plus delivery/installation. And of course that warranty can be extended if you so wish, but it gives people the option to do that or not.

If you can hold off the new ISE2 would be ideal from what you’ve described.

The ISE10 is, in my opinion, one of the best domestic machines that is available by a country mile. I realise that not everyone would want to invest that much money in a machine but, when you break it down it is incredibly good value for money as well as well as being a joy to use.

What I mean by that is that, even if it were to only see its tenth birthday it’s cost the princely sum of £80 a year to run. If it lasts for the intended 20 years then you’re down to £40, less than £1 a week to have your clothes clean.

It just depends on how you view things.

    @K
Thanks very much for your comprehensive reply – it helps a lot! I can hold off for the new ISE 2; will it be available immediately through UKW?

Also, you did not mention anything about support for ISE machines in the Western Isles. Could you possibly comment on this please, e.g. would it be a problem getting spare parts or qualified ISE service engineers?

    Thanks again

Re: ISE 2, 5 or 10 for 2-3 loads per week?

    Hi Toby,

There is no agent there and yes, that is a problem on the face of it.

However, it’s no trouble to get your local repairer sorted with all he needs if required. If you can ask him to get in touch with ISE admin I’m sure they’ll be able to sort him out with all that’s required.

There’s also a slight issue of getting anything onto the islands that can’t go Royal Mail as I’m sure you know only too well. But usually there’s ways and means.

    K.
