ParticipantOK, so it was delivered on Thursday somewhen close to 4:00pm, and in use just as the lad who installed it walked out the door! Right now it’s on load no 21. 😈
Seeing as I had something like 7-8 boil loads of towels to do, some of which were swimming towels that had festered for up to a mon, I started with one of those… I was a little disconcerted that the boil was doesn’t have a pre-wash, but as it’s now just finishing boil load 8 and so far all have given perfect results, this is a no longer even a minor niggle. Seems it really isn’t necessary. I have experimented with spinning the towels at 1200 and 1400, and for me, drying them in the tumble dryer, 1400 seems to give ideal results. I’ve yet to try 1600. Most of the machine related noise has been from environmental factors rather than the machine. It’s on a suspended floor, next to the fridge-freezer, and so far the biggest noise volume has been from bottles on top of that rattling as it hits a certain spin speed. It fades away again as the spin gets up towards the 1400 level.
Program 2 with the pre-wash was perfect when I reduced the temperature to 40 degrees for washing James’s muddy shorts, trousers with grass stains, and some shirts with shameful collars! All these were in the pale fawn –> white colour range. The collars and grass stains were given a light additional spray with SHOUT. The main wash got a standard (for me in out softened water house) dose of 1 tablespoon of Big Box Persil non-bio, pre-wash got one.
All the dark, brown, and red loads were done with program 5, with the temperature dialed down to 30 or 40 degrees. No failures. On these I used either one heaped tablespoon of Persil or one of Whirlpool Queen’s Aquados soft tabs. All came out perfectly. Grease marks were SHOUTED as first, as I usually do.
I also did several light coloured loads on this program, with equally satisfactory results. Again, I experimented with the spin speeds. For cotton rich loads the 1400 seemed to be best, while loads heavy on the poly fabrics did equally well on a mere 1200.
I was also impressed with the wool load, except that I couldn’t find anything to tell me what the spin speed for that was supposed to be… I turned the dial down to 800, and it seemed to be fine. As I don’t tumble the ‘woollies’, their being slightly damper than the other loads didn’t really matter. They were not wet enough to drip on the floor as they dried, so that was fine. Nothing has shrunk, stretched, distorted, or turned into a
small felt biscuit.Water consumption is impressively low for something that cleans so well. I’ll let you know further when we get the next cesspool emptying bill. If it reduces the frequency of emptyings, I’ll be pleased! Same on the electrons front…
So far I’m very impressed with the machine and the results. I can’t think of any negative points. No doubt I’ll let you know if any manifest over the next few months. So far all I can do is recommend the machine if you are looking for a new one.

Thanks. For my next trick: teaching the teen aged boy to use it!

Thanks for this detailed review Kate. Out of interest, why have you not tried 1600rpm yet?
Cheers,

I haven’t felt the need for it. 1400 has spun things out better than expected.
