ParticipantMy machine, purchased 2007, has developed a fault. It cuts out and trips the electric when the machine is spinning towards the end of the wash cycle. It appears to behave normally until that point. If I reset the electric and allow the machine to carry on, it does so for a couple of minutes and then cuts out again. An engineer has checked the machine’s internal wiring and eliminated any potential problems. I have tried plugging it in to a different socket and the same fault occurs. The machine has also been unreliable at coming on when using the time delay option. I eventually tried the reset procedure and can’t follow this through. I can get the machine to start draining, but can’t abort it, and there seems to be some haphazardness with the lights on the control panel, flashing, not coming on when expected etc. Any suggestions?

Was the engineer who checked it an authorised ISE agent, did he megger test all components?
I would be looking at the motor, especially the carbon brushes. 😉

Hello
Thank you for your swift reply. My engineer had tested all components and has now changed the brushes, which were definitely due for it. However, the problem remains.
I set the machine to come on during the night using the timer delay. All looked set to go, but when I came down in the morning, no lights or action. I pressed the start button and it started to drain. I let that carry on (although no water in it and set to 60 degree wash). Then I pressed start again and it went into action, appearing normal except that the spin light rather than the wash light was on. It carried on washing happily, all ok other than giving off a slight electrical smell once it was well in to the cycle. As it got towards the end of the wash cycle, as the spinning action got going, it tripped the electric circuit. The laundry appears to be washed, but is wetter than it should be though not dripping.
Any ideas, advice much appreciated.

Sadly that sounds very much like a failing motor.
