Hello

Our current Hoover washing machine has just developed a fault where it fills up with water, does not spin, then emptys. Its 13 years old and has been repaired once before-I think we have been lucky (our oldest child is now 8 and next is 5) but we made the decision that if it broke again we would get a replacement rather than repair. There is generally 1 or 2 loads a day .

So-someone recommened a Hoover VHD844DB but it appears quite new so could not find any reviews
I also read the Bosch WAE24363GB is good and of course Miele. However I am concerned about the repair cost for the Miele.
After reading the comments about the ISE make I am very interested-they sound great. The ISE 10 however is a out of my budget but the ISE5 at £450 (maybe inc delivery if I can find a stockist near Bristol) may fit the bill.
I understand there is an ISE 2 but that does not seem to be on the ukwhotegoods shop-is this now discontinued? I think this is cheaper than the ISE5 but would hopefully still fulfill our needs.

Any advice/thoughts would be welcome.

First thought is get yer old one looked at. 🙂

If you can find an honest, reliable local independent engineer you may find the machine only needs a new set of brushes, getting rid of a machine for that would be like throwing a perfectly good car away because the tyres are worn.

If the machine looks clean and was running without any serious noises before it failed then I would definitely advise a visit first. 8)

A new Hoover or come to that anything with a ‘British’ name on it will be very poor in comparison to your old machine.

Thanks Iadom and a good point

It has made noisy grinding sounds for a while now too-however a repair quote would not hurt I agree

However, asuuming we do go down the new purchase route I am favouring the ISE 2 or 5-I did find them both on ebay.

Would the support come from the seller or from ISE?

If you have got a grinding sound as well as a lack of spinning I would together with iadom suggest that not only are the brushes worn, you may have a bearing failure on the way. If this is the case then perhaps you should replace the machine. There is an extensive network of ISE sellers in the UK if you post up your postcode I am sure the local agent will give you a call. The support for the ISE range is from the aforementioned ISE agent covering your area irrespective of whether you bought it from him or of the internet.

Not sure about E-Bay, you would have to be very careful and check back here to make sure the seller is kosher before you dive in. 😉

Support is initially from the local independent agent who supplies the machine, backed up by ISE Ltd.

Valid point about ebay

The missus seems keen on the Hoover Vision VHD844DB-cheapest I have found is about £360 at comet (after 20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} discount code). However,as I said earlier I cannot find any reviews on this (presumably a new model?).

We would use the 8kg load but have seen mixed views on Hoovers
Does anyone have one who can kindly provide their opinion please?

Blimey-see what you mean! Missus now convinced we do not need an 8kg load machine! (or with a fancy spin speed!).

Long question short-say we are a typical family of 4,what is recommened, with a budget of say £400 (possibly from Comet which has the 20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} off washers but runs out 5/9/08)?

hoover machines, although not the worst are now using welded tanks an pcb’s that can only be programmed by the manufacturer

dont matter with the bosch, u probably wont need a repair for a good few years

has to be the ise. at about £280 for 2year parts and labour the 1200rpm ise2 is the best bet,as long as you have a local agent 😉

Quite honestly, it depends on what your needs are, and, more importantly, your expectations……

The ISE2 doesn’t pretend to be anything other than it is – a simple, very basic, decent quality budget machine with a good warranty in its price group. It’s not going to last 10 years, but when the warranty period is over it has the advantage of cheap components. Very cheap components, making a repair a cost effective option. No £80 computer boards and £100 motors on this one.

The ISE5 is really quite astonishing. It’s breathtakingly quiet, has a decent capacity, a high spin (if you want it), a couple of programmes that allow you to do laundry quickly but properly and the same promise on the spares. Right at the moment, I can’t get them fast enough!

Logically, we can all accept that there is no perfect appliance, even allowing for the bull from Miele, and that all appliance need a helping hand from time to time. Keeping it affordable is the trick…… ISE is doing something a little different. Sales and service from one source, with a decent quality product to work with.

The £400 mark is slightly odd territory – mainstream manufacturers price their “posh” machines up there, with the added bells and whistles. Very often, though, you’re buying the same basic chassis which is being sold for £250. You pay extra for the display, the high spin and all the extra buttons. Bosch/Seimens still do decent stuff; can’t honestly think of much else I’d recommend.

We are going to look at the Bosch on Saturday

However I do still like the sound of the ISE2 or 5 but cannot see many reviews of it-the only ones are really on this site (who sell it)-this is not a criticism just an observation. I am going to pop along to our library to see what the Which report has to say although the missus wants a known brand.

Our postcode is BS9 (bristol) – I did email the only Bristol based supplier listed at the ISE website but not heard back yet. If there are others I would’nt mind a chat with them

Well in the end we got a Miele W562 from John Lewis (got them to price match) and got the 5 year warranty

Have been impressed-bigger load, quieter and good cleaning results

Fingers crossed for the next 10 years!
