London is probably the strangest place on Earth though in this respect! πThere are dealers that don’t go outside a five mile radius due to traffic etc., others that cover vast tracts and everything in between. Plus, the postcode system would baffle Einstein!
Indeed. A(nother) disadvantage to living in the capital. But still, as far as possible, i’d like to support local businesses. And in this case, I found it too difficult to find anyone.

For the vast majority, a washing machine of this price is out of the question.
Sorry have to disagree there…I see on too many occasions people are for some reason happy enough to spend that figure on LCDs/Plasma tv’s.

Fully agree with Dave. :rolls:
When you track inflation the ISE10 or a high end Miele they are not expensive at all, infact looking at wages they are bargains.

I for one will be! If people looked into the purchase of a new washer like they do a new tv etc, then there would be no compromise i’m sure! π
I cant  can i!
Got to now though, as off to unload the ‘disaster buy’ of my old servis! :rotl:

Sorry but just another little quick one! Like high-water-level said, when you think about years back a washing machine was a luxury few could afford and if they could it would be many weeks of wages, but compare that with nowadays! :waving:

A few points on this:
1 I’m not saying a 10-year a-guaranteed washing machine presents bad value – far from it. And for those who could afford it, it would almost always prove far more economical (both financially and environmentally) than just dropping 250 on a cheap hotpoint or even 400 on a better Bosch. But,
2 Just because people are happy to spend loads on TVs etc, doesn’t mean they can afford it! Part of the reason why we’re in this [financial] mess now – people taking out loans for things they cannot afford.
And,
3 Spending circa Β£1K on a washing machine will be out of the question for most people. Seriously. In evidence of this, I would offer median income per household in the UK, combined with median level of savings, etc. People just don’t have the cash flow for these kind of large items. They could borrow the money, perhaps (as they do for their 50″ TVs etc!) – though I don’t think ISE yet offers any kind of ‘easy-payment plan…

On the other hand, hander π , lots of us trade members often go to people with Indesit/Beko/Haier machines in the kitchen and late model Mercs, Beamers and Audi’s on the drive. :rolls:

haha. My neighbours have a haier – noticed it yesterday! Looked cheap but I mentally filed away a thought to look it up. On the drive? (Well, parked in the street in our case).
A 40K Saab.
A matter of (misplaced) priorities, methinks. But my point remains.
BTW,
π₯ The alternative to the ISE arrived on Friday as promised. Was partly hoping they’d fail so I could convince the other half to wait. The one upside is that it claims it’s ‘Made in Germany’ (rather than Poland/Spain). And it did rock in at the best part of Β£600. (So I hope you don’t think I’ve got the same misplaced priorities.) No ten-year guarantee of course. Just two for general and ten on the motor.
But hey, I made an informed choice within the parameters. I’m living with it!

kwatt wrote:As for the dealer list, funnily enough this has been a topic with the guys as well.
The problem that we’ve had is that the old system really wasn’t very good. It was fine a few years back when ISE was young but, in today’s internet and with the increased number of dealers and repairers, it’s really not up to snuff and we are fully aware of that. So we have commissioned a whole new website and search.
We hope to have the new website live in the next week or two but the dealer search has turned out to be a bit of a nightmare. The problem has been that there’s not a simple “plug and play” solution for what we do, so we’ve had to have it hand coded which is taking time and may not be live when the new site goes online.
The trouble with too many websites — and that applies to ISE’s website as well — is that they are commissioned at vast expense from web designers who live in a dream — or dare I say “Dreamweaver” π — world and produce websites which are a triumph of form over substance.
A pretty website is all very well, but what people NEED is relevant content.
In the case of ISE people need
1. An accurate description of the machines available with relevant technical data
2. An accurate list of who sells them and to what area they sell, together with an up-to-date list of realistic contact details. And sorry, anyone who doesn’t have an email address in today’s world comes into the same category as some who doesn’t have a phone, as far as most of us are concerned
3. An accurate list of who services the machines and what areas they cover
There’s nothing there that can’t be done on a simple, text-based site. Of course it’s not as attractive as a site with all the bells and whistles, but it would be a whole lot more useful to have a simple site with the basic information, than to have a fancy site which lacks the vital information.
Most of us wouldn’t be on this forum if we weren’t sympathetic to the concept of ISE. However, as has been pointed out, both sales and service of washing machines are usually “distress purchases” and even the best washing machines in the world or the best service provision in the world is no use if the potential customers can’t find out quickly and easily how to access them.

KeymasterHi Coigach,
That platform is four plus years old. I’d agree with many of your comments about it.
The new website goes live this week. π

I am looking forward to an update of the website too. Currently, if I search for a repairer in my post code area London E7 to repair an ISE machine, I am told there are none. If I bought one through Ronβs Repairs, I know they would come out and have every faith in them, but say they were closed or on holiday it would be good to know that there are other repairers available who would come out?

hi jaunty,
This is something i had not considered would happen in London, one assumes in a city everything is ‘at hand’ so to speak, but now i have learnt a :lesson: about that!
best wishes
