I’ve had my ISE washer and dryer for a couple of weeks and so far everything is going well.

There are still a couple of things I’m not sure about.

Firstly is the “auto” cycle. The manual says very little about this other than it adjusts the length of the wash cycle and the number of rinses to suit the wash load. What does this mean, it adds extra rinses if if thinks it is necessary somehow? Does it sense the dirtiness of the water? What would I get by using the auto cycle over the Normal or Colour/White cycles?

Generally I’ve been using 40 deg Colour/White for most clothes (coloured cottons) and 60 deg Normal for towels and sheets. 40 deg Normal for whites though I’ve only done one of these – don’t do whites very often as most of my clothes, towels and bedding are coloured. So far I’ve not been disappointed with the performance of any of the washes.

Which brings me to a detergent question. I know you say powder detergent is better than liquid as liquid can’t contain bleach… but also colour detergent doesn’t contain bleach so is there any disadvantage to using liquid for colours? I’ve been using Morrisons super-concentrated colour detergent so far, one capful per wash (i.e. the recommended dose for 5kg but with an 8kg load as I read the ISE needs less detergent than normal) and had good results. I do use Ariel powder for whites (and will use it for a maintenance wash but I’ve not had the machine that long yet) but as I said I don’t do that many white washes. Also I don’t really like the super-strong smell of Ariel. I don’t use any fabric conditioner.

Will using liquid detergent for colours for most of my washes harm the machine at all, provided I do an occasional whites wash and a regular maintenance wash with Ariel powder?

    Thanks

Re: ISE auto cycle and detergent questions

    Hi,

The auto program essentially detects the clothing and foam levels from what I can gather but, in all honesty, I’ve not studied it so can’t be absolute with the answers. I have asked for more details on it though.

Liquids are find for colours as you don’t want to use a bleach containing detergent on coloured items of they will fade. So you will have no trouble with what you’re doing.

    K.
