My W1607W has worked fine with no issues, including yesterday, but when I pressed the main switch today, there was a short crunchy noise and now all electronics are unresponsive (ie nothing lights up, no buttons respond). Seems something has blown, but with no prior faults its not clear where to start. I have found service manual for this model from an old strand, but this assumes the machine is responsive, eg can be got into the service menu. Am about to take off front panel to see if any electronics are visibly fried, test resistances with multimeter etc. Would rather fix it than replace it, but need to work out whether this is likely to be viable. Am aware of ISE demise.

Other strands I’ve found on UKWG about W1607W are on fixing specific faults rather than a wholesale “machine dead” scenario. Does anyone have any suggestions for how diagnose cause of death and fixability from here?

I have had one fail like this, sadly it was the main control pcb which customer decided was too expensive.:(

    Listed at around £190.

    Thanks iadom.

Presumably if I order and fit the main control unit, there is a risk that something else is wrong as well, that caused the previous control unit to fail, and the control unit blows again? The control unit is out and looks as-new, no obvious components blown. No sign of obvious damage round motor control unit, motor or drain pump. And the fuse in the plug wasn’t blown. Is there anything else I should look out for before I decide whether to go down the repair route?

Though if my choice to avoid sealed-tub, extreme long cycle times and other “modern” shortcuts is between fixing the ISE or upgrading to a Elctrlx Prfssnl QWC, £190 for the main board might be the least bad option.

Wouldn’t go for an Electrolux, just a tarted up Zanussi, Miele is a much better option IMHO.

Hard to say if it is just a board failure or caused by a fault elsewhere, unfortunately I didn’t get the chance to find out on the one I went to.:(

I have a 1607 myself and when the time comes to replace it I will buy a Miele.

    Thanks iadom

I’ve made my choice re a replacement machine, and have stripped down the 1607.

If you have a 1607 then can I tempt you/UKWG with a recovered motor unit or any other parts? It would be nice to salvage a small amount of the value lost when the ISE 10yr gtee melted away…

Will sadly take it to the tip tomorrow.

Thanks for the offer but I don’t personally need those parts. You could put them on EBay I suppose?
