Squeak comes from the bearing housing and sounds like just a bird. The machine has to run for a short time and then the noise starts. It is quite loud. Customer says smell of rubber as well. I’ve removed the belt and turned the drum pulley by hand and it’s definitely the bearing or bearing seal at fault.
Anyone had a problem like this or a failure of these bearings before? I’ve done a 1606 strip down and rebuild before; is the W288 similar? Not done bearings though….. anything different to know about?Steve.

Cheers for that, Bryan – also the bearing kit appears to be not too expensive so I feel a little happier.
Thanks again!!

It’s happening again!! Squeaking away…………. 😡
It squeaks intermittently on wash but spins smooth and quiet. Changed the belt and turned the drum by hand with no belt and still squeaks. The bearings are perfect so is it possible to get a bearing seal separately? Don’t understand why the same machine should be affected twice; it’s not that heavily used.Anyone else had an issue with a squeaky seal? Is there any way to stop it happening again, even if it’s sneaky…..?

Take the pulley off ,push the shaft in as far as it will go then refit the pulley ,put powder in and put on a 90deg

Hi Lawrence,
Hope all is well with you and yours!I love the simplicity and cost free essence of that fix, but how does that mechanically sort the problem? Does it lube the seal or move its position……. or what? Intrigued……:lesson: I did the bearings and seals two years ago but what I don’t get is why the new seal squeaks yet the bearings are fine. And just this machine!
Thanks for the tip – these customers are the whingy, persistent folks you wish you’d let go to Curry’s.Cheers,
Steve.
