ParticipantHi, we have a well loved ISE10 (1606W) washing machine, bought approx 2009 that has recently started making a quite loud rattling noise. The noise seems to occur relatively early in the cycle, during times when it is spinning more quickly. My wife recently found a small ball bearing (approx 3mm dia) in the drum after a wash load so not sure if this has lost from a bearing somewhere or if it has found its way in there from somewhere else.
As a relatively old and unusual machine I suspect a random washing machine repair engineer may not know much about them so thought I’d see if there was anyone here that may be able to help still…

Moderatoryou could have a look in the engineers section to see if any engineer in your area can help

spares are limited on these and i dont know how big a job it is to do a bearing change on these.
as for your ball bearing i cant see it coming from the drum and if the bearings are that bad you would likely be leaking water. you could take the lid off and look at the pulley. if its leaking through the bearings then you get water spray from the pulley all around the rear case.Dave

ModeratorWas the ball bearing nice and shiny? I don’t think I have ever seen a ball bearing from any make of washing machine make it’s way into the drum, nigh on impossible. Have you still got your user manual? You can find instructions in that showing how to easily remove one of the plastic drum lifters to check for anything lying inside the drum that shouldn’t be there.
Also remove the drain pump filter and check for anything in there.
Check that both of the thin springs on the top of the drum are in place and secure. If you don’t find anything then run the machine with the top and back of to try and see where the noise is coming from.Turn the drum by hand through the door opening, it should be virtually silent.
