ParticipantHello there,
I am having problems with my new ISE 1606W Washing Machine.
We have had the washing machine for less than a month and when this morning I loaded the washing machine the door would just not lock.
I have very gently pushed it in a few times, but there is “something” preventing the door to “click” in (if that makes sense): there is something preventing the door catch from slotting into the hole (very technical, don’t laugh).
Is there anything that I should do myself or do I need to ring the fitter than delivered the washing machine?
thanks
joe

Hi Joe,
There’s one thing you can do as it sounds as if the lock’s gotten knocked out.
If you open the filter flap at the bottom you’ll see a red pull. This is secured (for child safety) with a cross headed screw, you need to undo that screw to pull the emergency door release, that’s what the red pull is.
If you give that a tug, you don’t need too much effort, it should reset the door lock to a normal open position and return normal operation of the lock.
Hopefully that should solve the problem but do let me know please.

Thanks kwatt !
what you said did the trick: the door is working properly again.
Any ideas why this happened? My partner has said on a couple of occasions that the final spin is quite noisy, but our last washing machine was spinning at 1000, not 1600, so my hunch is that we are not used to a 1600 spin.
The machine is superb and I love it, but should I do anything to prevent this happening again?
Thanks for you amazingly prompt reply Kwatt

I’m not sure what causes it, I think it’s just the door not engaging fully then repeated attempts to close it throws the lock whilst the catch isn’t fully engaged. But, I’m guessing in all honesty without actually seeing it happen.
I’ve heard of this on a couple of occasions but it does seem a very rare issue, I’ve only had I think two other instances that I’ve heard of. Thankfully one was my mother-in-law’s machine and how I discovered how to reset the door lock.
No matter though so long as the cure is simple. 😉
Yes, a jump from 1000rpm to 1600rpm is a significant difference and probably the cause of any perceived noise increase.

Hi there,
it’s happening again. In fact it has happened for the last 2 weeks: the door does not lock, I pull the red cord, it works for 2-3 washings, and then it does not lock again. This seems to be our Sunday afternoon routine.:(
My main worry is that, as Kwatt stated, it is a “very rare issue” that is not going away in my machine. So … what do we do? Does it need to be repaired or does the machine need to be replaced?
If I am honest I am quite disappointed with this door business: we did buy this machine for peace of mind, but so far …
Don’t get me wrong: the machine is fine: it performs as well as it looks, but the door is getting on our nerves and my missus is starting to lack the judgment of my investment (or, as she puts it “investment”).
Can you advice please?
thanks
joe

Contact your local agent and arrange a service call. If you are not sure who that is, contact the ISE office on 0845 226 1268 and they’ll get things moving for you.

Hi Joe,
It may be that it’s just a sticky lock so simply changing it should cure any issue.
As P45 says, just call it in and that’ll be done.

hello there,
I only posted my little issues with the door of my washing machine in this public forum as before buying the ISE10 appliances I found it very difficult to get much info about them and the after service available, and buying them was a bit of leap in the dark so to speak.
So, I thought that it would be good to provide some feedback (I do appreciate we are all really good at making others know when things don’t go ok, point taken) so that others can have more info when deciding what to buy.
Of course once all issues have been resolved and after a few months of use I will provide my feedback for the ISE 10 washer and drier. I had always planned to do this.
Thanks
joe

Participantthats fair enough.. we’re only tring to help
to put it in perspective for you… if it had been a hotpoint pile of tosh, the door lock would have blown the pcb by now, and youd be waitin 3 weeks for a repair, the machine would be useless, and youd have been hassled to daeath to extend the warranty
things do go wrong, nothing in life is perfect
good luck

On my friends maytag which looks identical to the ise10 the door operates the same way and if he doesnt close the door hard enough he gets the same issue, it happens because if you dont use enough force it will continue to do it.
You have to give them a bit of a slam for them to shut.

The door does not need to be slammed shut. Bring the door to the almost closed position, then, using the flat of the hand, a quick firm push will shut the door first time, every time.
