ParticipantHi
I have an ISE5 model number (barcode on inside of door ) is 00616808000530050079. I’m not sure how long we’ve had but I think it’s about 6 or so years.
It’s doing a couple of odd things, I’m not sure if there’s anything I can do myself but suspect I need an engineer to look at it.
1) The programme selected never corresponds with what is on the dial. It’s usually out by say 1 programme, sometimes it will come up with the time of one programme then skip to another without me touching a thing. It’s been like this a while in fairness but I’ve learnt all the times of the programmes off by heart and just fiddle until I get the one I want!
2) probably more pressing issue. It has taken to making what I can only describe as a horrendous grinding / whirring noise (really loud). It usually happens when the programme has about 20-30 mins to run. I have to switch the machine off as it’s that loud, usually leave it for half an hr then switch it back on. Sometimes this resolves it, sometimes it doesn’t. When it doesn’t I have end the programme and try a different one.
I guess my questions are really, can I do anything (as completely non engineer type person). If not- how do I go about getting an engineer for an ISE machine?
Thanks for any help

Have you checked the pump filter, bottom right? Foreign bodies such as coins and bra wires will cause the noise you mention.
As for the controls I have nearly always managed to cure this fault by spraying proper, electrical switch cleaner into the back of the rotary switch unit. Do not be tempted to use WD40 or similar.
The documentation you received with the machine will have the head office number on it if you need an engineer to call.

Thanks – much appreciated.
I will clean the filter tonight & try and source some electrical switch cleaner. I assume I can access the back of the rotary switch unit by removing the top of the machine (no idea but will try this)
Thanks for your help. Will let you know how I get on.

Thanks. I’ve checked the filter and pump, there was nothing there. Now have added complication of being unable to get the filter cap screwed back which I’ve always had a problem with but now the machine is unusable so I will have to try the engineer route. Thanks for trying to help though.

Well, received absolutely outstanding service today from an ISE recommended engineer who came with 2 hours of me calling. I would dare anyone to beat that! R&J Domestics if I’m allowed to name drop.
The pump is looking a little iffy but he cleaned it all out & it’s working. He has said he will come back & replace it if there are further problems. He’s also sorted the programme dial & replaced the filter cap so all is good now
And to think I was looking at the buying guides last night – after reading through them all it’s made me realise we did buy a good machine in the ISE – it’s just been through a lot and so repairing is the way forward!
Thanks for your help. Much appreciated.

Whilst working for Hotpoint over 40 years ago I once called on a customer before they had managed to get back home from the telephone box on the corner of the street. I was sat on the doorstep waiting for them. No mobiles and a lot of houses did not have a phone either. We had radios in our vans and I just happened to be passing and had a call slot free.:)
Glad to hear you got it sorted.

Nowadays, in deepest, darkest Devon, they’ve done away with phone boxes. They now revert back to the good old days using only rumour and gossip in order to find their way around. No point in dashing about either as time in the south-west is at a slower pace. Ooooh ahhhhh, tis true enough. 😉
