    Hi All,

Hopefully someone is able to help me with my washing machine issue!
The washing machine is an Indesit IWB71250UK and just stopped dead the other day whilst running a cycle. It stopped full of water and would not drain any of the water out. There was also an accompanying burning smell which led me to switching off the machine straight away.

I drained all the water manually from the drain pipe and then the remaining through the filter hole at the front of the drain pump. There was no debris in here at all to suggest it had gotten blocked.

I laid it down on its back and took the drain pump out. I took a resistance measurement which was about 220ohms which is apparently correct from what I read. No blockages on the sump or drain and everything appeared pretty clean.

Put it back on its feet and removed the motor. All connections appear fine here too and are showing resistances in the correct ballpark (1-10ohms) without any shorts. The brushes are also fine with plenty of meat left on them so not that! No bad smells from the motor or drain pump which from past experiences usually sticks around if electrical?

I reassembled it all and plumbed it back in. Put it on drain mode and it did nothing. On spin it rotated fine to high rpm with no strange noises but then stopped and just buzzed. Back onto drain and it now buzzes but doesnt drain.

I have ordered a new pump (https://www.ransomspares.co.uk/parts/washing-machines/hotpoint/askoll-drain-pump/388413.htm) on the principal that this is relatively low cost but would appreciate any other advice. I appreciate its a relatively old machine but if its a simple fix then i’d rather do that!

    Thanks for your help,
    Louis

open the filter and select spin
start machine and see if impellor turns or tries to

if the impellor wears with age they can jam and not start

I’ll give it a go tonight Dave, cheers. As I say, the new pump is coming tomorrow regardless.
From other things I’ve read online the burning smell would point towards a failing pump? Just peculiar I still got a decent resistance through it. I have no error lights and it seems to want to start up fine for a cycle just doesnt get passed filling with water and trying to drain.

So I’ve replaced the drain pump and still nothing happening. I can now see the fan spinning but it’s just not doing anything else. Light is on saying its on a particular cycle but it just wont start up? Presume something board based has gone?

An update. If I put it onto a cycle it will fill with water but it just wont move on in the cycle. I turned it off and then ran the program again and it drained all its water fine then got stuck in the same fill and stop.
if I choose the spin only function itll spin once but wont spin again.

does sound like the board may be faulty
