The Mrs says that the washing machine started making a clicking noise, sounded like the dial being rotated, but a bit louder.
Then switched off and won’t power back on.

I’ve checked the fuse, socket etc.
I have the lid off and can’t smell anything burnt out.
But that’s as far as I’ve gone with it.

I looked at the cost of a power board and this costs almost as much as a new machine, so other than that can anyone suggest anything simple I may have missed before I scrap it and buy another.

also forget the power board as it needs to be programmed once fitted so you would need software and programming gear

I opened up the power board and found something odd at the base of a capacitor.

Has to be worth a try for 30p ???

i would say water has got at that and shorted it underneath

it probably blown the fusible resistor as well

I can’t seem to measure R044 (the green one)

    I found a russian site which mentions R044 as 10 ohm 2w.
removed it and found that it’s fused.

its also a fusible resistor so need same to replace

ordered from RS components. Wish me luck

check the board under the cap as it will have tracked and carbonised.

if it has really scrape it well and if poss drill a hole to break the circuit but beware of any other print in the area

I did that already and painted with nail varnish.
There appears to be have been a small amount of water ingress, as the opposite side of the board has lost the green varnish.
I’ll revarnish when the components are replaced.

I’m intrugued as to how water got in there though to be honest.
Its at the bottom corner of the board, farthest away from any water source
    It’s under a plastic cover.
    It doesn’t make much sense.

I’ve drilled a few holes in the plastic cover incase it happens again.

What is intruiging is the Russian site I mentioned earlier has damage in the same area.

if there is nothing on the other side of that track drill a hole in the board to make sure it cant do it again. There is over 300v DC on that cap so it will track on any weakness
also dont put the cap so its touching the board, leave a small gap

Wer’e back in action, up and running, already performed a full load.

My tests would indicate that the capcitor was working, but for the small costs involved it wasn’t worth messing about with.

I’m 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} confident that the ‘No Power’ was down to the blown fuseable resistor – R044

Thanks Dave, I don’t think I would have found that if it wasn’t for your intervention.

Still holding up a week later.

    The fault re-ocurred today.
I took the board out and found dampness in the same area, with parts of the PCB tracks now burnt out.
I’ve no idea how water is getting where it is, and it’s not a huge amount either as there are no traces inside the body of the machine or on the floor, but the few drops there are is enough to kill it.
I can’t even figure out where it might be coming from, let alone how its getting in to that part of the mainboard.

So today sadly it’s been put out to pasture for the skip fairys, and a new machine purchased.

Sad when bad design causes something to go to the skip i would have conformal coated it but hindsight is a wonderful thing plus thats a lot of power so who knows unlucky mate gutted for you , hope the new one is all good
