ParticipantWe have never taken cards only cash or cheques, But I think the time has come,
The izettle seems good for us, it’s small anyone got one, Any problems
We do a lot of landlords who won’t to pay over the phone is it possibly to take card payments this way I realise it won’t be guaranteed without the pin.January 20, 2014 at 8:52 am #407899funkyboogy

I like to be payed when I do the job,
when you take PayPal payments is it all done later when you get to the office
If that’s the case it would be the same as using BACs and just giving them your bank details and checking later that they payed it in.
It’s nice to leave a job and know its finished.January 21, 2014 at 9:42 am #407901Martin

Izettle does seem the way to go for you pmb. Though I hope you have good phone coverage on your patch and preferable use an iPhone?

Paypal as well as Izettle. More options for your customer to choose how they want to pay you…….way to go…! 😀

I have looked at paypal here its a chip and pin card reader that links to your phone via bluetooth and uses your phone’s gprs to establish a secure connection the reader is £99 then 2.75{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} transaction fee per card I’ve also looked at streamline which is a card reader with built in roaming sim card that finds the best carrier signal then processes the payment with far less transaction costs the has built in thermal paper roll to give receipt but that system requires 3 yr contract at £24 + vat per month and minimum I think £10 transaction per month and you also have to go through data compliance. Both do the same job but it’s horses for courses. The only bad thing I have heard on the PayPal here reader is some people complaining of money being held for 30 days initially but that may only be because a new business paypal account was opened and it had to be verified but don’t hold me to that. There’s also world pay zinc but haven’t looked at that in much depth at the moment. I think I’m leaning towards the streamline option myself just not overly happy with the 3 yr contract as only just started on my own and haven’t really built a strong client base yet but it definitely looks the more professional of the options because the customer will recognise the reader as similar to that in a shop and may be more likely to trust it’s security as opposed to you offering the PayPal here reader which looks like a cheap plastic calculator. But ultimately you pays your money you takes your choice.

Worldpay Zinc, its the only one approved by both Mastercard and Visa, reader is £59.00 and 2.75{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} PT. Links to android or IOS and online portal to process CNP Payments. Works perfectly on both android and IOS as I have run it on both. No monthly fees and its an ideal way to get into taking card payments maybe to a level where you are processing lots of transactions that a monthly fee terminal with one of the larger companies would thenw work out cheaper

these App chip and pin solutions charge way over the odds for a debit card transaction, which, in my experience anyway, is by far the most popular form of card payment. For that reason, a proper merchant account and stand alone mobile machine has to be better. Its £2.50 less per £100 debit card transaction.

Your right mate, the point here is that Merchant Rates differ vastly dependent on turnover and percentage of cards processed. I have both a fully fledge merchant account with thousands of transactions and also use the Zinc Pay for another venture. Both have their place and for someone just starting out or dipping thier toes its a good solution In my opinion

I use the Elavon machine that links to a smart phone, their charge is 2.95{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} on credit and debit cards. It is a professional looking machine. I have recently contacted my bank representative to see if they would consider charging a flat fee of, for example 70p for a debit card transaction, as opposed to the normal, I think 30p for people using a rented stand alone machine, to help with the larger transactions,i.e, a machine sale.
