That stands for just out of guarantee. (Because I neglected to note the model).
The heater clip/post that holds the element at its business end had come loose being fixed by a screw through the bottom of the drum 😯 .
The machine therefore leaked nearly as fast as it filled.
Problem was that a sheet of metal covered the lower half of the outer drum making the screw inaccessible.
I asked the customer if he had an electric drill and fortunately he had a very nice one with lots of nice shiny gold coloured drill bits. My eyes brightened!(Some may remember why).
Protecting the motor from swarf by covering it with a sheet of paper, and working with the machine on its side,I drilled a few holes carefully through the metal and joined them into one 10p sized hole using side cutters.
Thus I was able to tighten the screw (holding the post with water pump pliers through the element aperture as I tightened) and apply a liberal coat of Debor to seal it, hopefully. I suggested he leave it some time before testing, and call me back if there was any sign of leakage.(I’m off for 10 days tomorrow!)
The heater was very difficult to get back in due to the grommet shape and the fact that the very thin metal drum had a flange made by bending out the drum metal above and below the hole to make it wide enough to accept the grommet. Pity you guys in hardwater areas who’ll be having to change elements on these if they last long enough to fur up and blow.
Anyone else encountered this fault yet?

I haven’t personally but then I try avoiding Indesit repairs as much as possible 😆

However I do recall this post a while back :-

Just had a read of that, despite being on holiday. 😀
I think I would have just told him to find a way of making sure the screw stayed tight, like Araldite or some such; which is what I’ll probably use if my customer’s screw comes loose again. 😯
Interesting that in this case the “drum cradle” doesn’t appear to have been in the way.
    Mike.
