ParticipantMachine is about 6 years old.
Recently the door did not release at wash end some times.
Now when you select a program the Door Lock clicks on/off and the Led blinks, but press start and the program starts to run. The water fills and even starts to turn the drum but at about 3 minutes the RCD is tripped and will only reset when the machine is switched to off.
Tried a spin only program and the same happens.
Any ideas what to check next ?
Is it the door interlock ?September 28, 2015 at 6:07 pm #430581LiamMc

I’d imagine the heater is gone faulty, but that is just a guess, need to test it or get someone to test it for you.

Thanks Seamy
Unfortunately I guessed at door interlock and ordered one before seeing your reply, 🙁 anyone need a working door lock.
Checked out Google and tested the heater, it is showing 29 ohms so should be OK, but this is a hardwater area so pulled the heater out to look at it. The element is caked in limescale and has black scorch marks on 2 legs of element. Not sure if the marks are a sign of failure when power is put into it.October 5, 2015 at 8:49 pm #430584bazza500

You need to do an insulation test on the heater to check for an earth leak

How do I confirm the make of the machine ?
other post for JLWM1203 said theirs was Zanussi.went through the diagnostic and it came back with E42 –
E40 Door open, door interlock, wiring or main PCB
E41 Door open
E42 Problems with aperture of the doorPretty much the same as E40 and E41 fault codes.
so none the wiser.

29ohms is about right for element resistance, its important that there is no leakage to earth though.
E42 points to door interlock problems, with power off have a look at wiring to interlock and at connection to p.c.b, maybe poor connections or loom burned connections etc are givint that code.
If you can use a test meter on high resistance settings, (M’ohms) to check for leakage to earth, any component with low resistance to earth (below say 3 M’ohms) would cause tripping.
Check motor & heater as they usually are components prone to earth leaks.
This machine is made by Zanussi/Electrolux for John Lewis.
Hope this helps.

Seamy
many thanks for your help.
I took the advice given earlier and ordered a new heating element.
That has done the trick, it WORKS !!attached is a picture of the old element, after I have clean a load of limescale and gunk off it, I don’t think the black parts are designed !
Great site I will pass it on , and hopefully not have to visit again too often ;-))
