ParticipantRan usual 30 degree quick wash, start time is 50 minutes, it goes through the cycle and back to 50 minutes in the timer window but all it has done is fill the drum, no washing has happened.
Put it in service test mode and went through the settings until it flashed RED and error E52 came up.
do we know what this is please ?the machine is an Electrolux under the skin I think, serial 914522514.
bought from John Lewis.November 20, 2017 at 7:40 pm #451838electrofix

e52 just means the motor is not turning
check motor brushes
as a quick check. pull machine out and tilt it back 45 degrees. to be safe get someone to hold it. find motor brushes on motor and give each of them a firm tap with a screwdriver handle. lower machine and try it
if it works you know you need new brushes and they need to be changed now don’t leave it till it stops again. if its the same it still might be brushes and you will have to remove them to checkDave

Good spot , I have tested the brushes (hit with screwdriver) and they look like they are the cause. Ran the spin cycle and the drum turned for me.
Will order some new brushes and see if that is the only issue.November 27, 2017 at 12:13 pm #451840LiamMc

Spoke too soon.
Ran 2 washes ok now the machine stopped at end of cycle with water still in.
Ran the drain cycle, it pumps the water then when it should spin it goes to high speed spin but with a jump of the whole machine then immediately slows, as if the jump has tripped a miss-alignment sensor.
Ran the diagnostic and it stops at E52 again.
any suggestions ?November 27, 2017 at 7:30 pm #451842electrofix

did you take motor out to fit brushes if yes check motor plug
there is a little generator at the back of the motor that detects speed. if this does not work machine accelerates motor then realises it cant detect it so shuts it down
there is a little magnet on the end of the motor if they break or come loose it causes this.
type tacho magnet on a google search

Removed the motor again, getting better can now remove and replace the motor without tilting the machine.
The permanent magnet at in the tachometer had come undone, screwed it back into the shaft end and replaced the retaining cap.
Drain cycle test ran correctly with the spin starting at the correct speed.
Looks like all is working as it should again. Many thanks for your assistance Dave

Ca anyone help please? I have a similar symptom on a JLWM1203. I get a sudden jump as the motor tries to accelerate during the wash cycle resulting in the drum doing nothing for the rest of the cycle or the machine reverting to the beginning of the cycle and then hanging. The trouble is it doesn’t always do it, sometimes it works fine.
Using information from this site (thanks!) I have run through the test cycle which all works OK. However, code E52 was stored on position 10, which is why I’m posting here. I’ve had a look at the tachometer which looks fine and I’ve measured the resistance across the windings which looks right as well. The magnet appears to be correctly screwed to the end of the motor shaft. After doing all of this I cleared the error code and did a trial wash. Same symptoms occurred but it didn’t report an error code.
The machine is 10 years old and I replaced the motor brushes a year ago and it’s run fine since.
I’m suspecting this is a fault with the control panel now as I can’t think of anything else.
Does anyone have any ideas before my wife demands we buy a new machine? 🙂Thanks in anticipation
