ParticipantHi All,
A couple of weeks ago I purchased this oven, new and I quickly found that the temperature in the top oven, when switched on from cold, got far hotter than it should do
It didn’t matter if fast heat was selected or not
As an example, if I chose conventional top and bottom element, 180 degrees, after 15 minutes the temperature in the centre of the oven was actually around 260 degrees
After about 40 minutes the temperature would be correct
I used a temperature probe on a multi meter which is reading the correct temperature, ‘cos I checked it
The bottom oven works perfectly
When I told John Lewis they sent an Electrolux repair agent (the oven is made by Electrolux) he decided that the temperature probe and main board may be defective and returned a few days later with a new one of each
The probe was fitted – no problem but the display showed F9 when the new motherboard was fitted. He said there was a software incompatibility issue and said he would return with a new control panel and motherboard
When he came back again, he didn’t have a new control panel, just a motherboard. When it was fitted, it was tested – same problem, the oven got too hot
he then made a ‘phone call to Electrolux who told him ‘all ovens do this, irrelevant of manufacturer. The only way to avoid it is to have a fan unit in both ovens’
After he left, having said there was nothing more that could be done, we now find that the top element works in the top oven but not for grilling
Because we’ve had the oven for less than 28 days, John Lewis have decided to refund me the cost of the oven, so it’s not my problem any more
But I’m intrigued. Is it true what I was told about all small fanless ovens ? Or is it a story ?
I should be most grateful for any comments from others who are more knowledgeable than I

A good storyteller for sure. 😉
Incidentally the model number you gave was for an oven that was manufactured way back in 2009 so pretty old stock then. To be sure can you give us the 11 digit Pnc number beginning 911????????

Again it says the production date as 2009 but that could be FROM 2009 for all I know. Although the AEG produced equivalent is dated 2012.

I just had a look at the John Lewis site using internet archive and it was on sale in 2009 so as you say not a new model
But what do you think about the overheating affecting all small non fan ovens that I was told

I earlier described that as storytelling OR to elaborate further, a nonsense. The temperature levels are electronically monitored and when working correctly are extremely accurate. Likewise the cabinet cooling between both ovens is very efficiently maintained by active cooling fans. Likely as not your replacement oven will work exactly as it was designed.

Hi
Thanks for your reply I did think maybe it was all a story myself
but after the tech guy told us that all small non fan ovens get too hot SWMBO went and orderd a E.Lux EOD5700AAK
She did so cos it has a fan in each oven and cost about the same as the JL oven I hope this will not prove to be the pain the JL one was
