ParticipantHi there,
I am looking for a bit of advice on what to do with our John Lewis/Daewoo American Style Fridge Freezer (JLAFFB2011). Recently the fridge froze everything (no frost to be seen). I measure with an IR thermometer that it go to around -10 or -15 in parts.I unplugged/replugged it in and the compressor continued to pump away. After a couple of days it settled down and has now gone back to normal for the last two weeks. In the meantime we are borrowing a fridge from my in-laws as I do not trust it not to do this again.
A few weeks before the above happened I noticed the drink dispenser was not working and assumed it had frozen up as we were hearing the normal clicks. It was working again a little later so thought nothing of it.
To me it must either be a faulty temp sensor or fridge thermostat.
It is 6 months out of warranty (3.5 years old). The options we have explored are:
2x recommended repair agents, one who only gives a 3 month warranty on that particular fault and other who doesn’t serve our area.
CurrysKnow how at £279 for a fix and 12 month warranty were considered but they won’t come out as they don’t have the parts.I have just spoken to Daewoo again to see if this time I could get some practical advice and they said it may be the “Damper assembly air channel” that is stuck open. She said I could see this if I remove the can chiller at the top. It should be open 90 degrees or so. I will have a look tonight.
Apart from that it could be the main circuit board.Sorry for the long post but if any one has any advice on how to deal with an intermittent fault of this nature it would be much appreciated.
My next step will be to make an early warning system from an Arduino programmable circuit board!!
Thanks,

Participantyour fridge has turned into a freezer cos the compressor is not shutting off when it gets to temp so It is a sticking thermostat relay, they are about 10 pounds on ebay unless it is a control board where the thermostat plugs in to then you will have to change the board and thermistor
