ParticipantHi
I’ve searched the forum and can’t find anything on the John Lewis JL3DFS1801. It is a ‘French door’ Electrolux – is it any good, or does this style have design problems (like the width, but guess hard to design properly as so few of that design around).
Otherwise, and I know you get what you pay for, perhaps a GE, but I’m concerned about service should it go wrong….
I’m going round and round trying to find a sensible solution. We have a 15-20? year old Admiral (75 cm wide), and very happy with it but it won’t last forever, so new kitchen means we built a space for a more standard ish 92cm wide American style, and I’m wondering what we can fill the space with that is as reliable and well built as the Admiral has been….
I have read your buying guide – is the Rangemaster (S*S?) side by side still GE – the N*N is baumatic I think?
Perhaps a NEFF series 3 or 5 (K5930D1GB looks very nice on paper)?
Spent weeks researching this, and really really hard to work out what is what.
Hope someone can help
Thanks

The closest that you will get to your old Admiral is the GE and, even that won’t be quite the same. Cost engineering creeps in everywhere I’m afraid. 😉

Ah. Thank you. I was beginning to be afraid of that. 🙁
Are GEs easy to maintain (I read that GE had pulled out of the UK, or is that not quite right?)
I guess the NEFF would decent enough? Perhaps not much less than a GE though….
Thanks

Let me put it this way, I have a GE at home.
I’ve not got much experience with the Neff so can’t really comment with any authority but I would expect it’d be reasonably decent from BSH (Bosch Group).
The rebadged Electrolux same, I’ve had little experience with but in pecking order it’d likely come next.
The Rangemaster could be GE in a dress, could be something else, you’d need a model number to be sure or, as sure as can be.
Baumatic tend to be rebadged Daewoo or Midea (Chinese) from memory. The Daewoo units are okay for the money but, not when you whack Baumatic’s margin on top when you can save a load and just buy a Daewoo.
Chinese ones… you don’t wanna go there.
Also, check out the water filter prices for after since, as I found out recently, the cost of filters for the likes of the Panasonic over the anticipated life of the unit is greater than the cost of the fridge freezer in the first place! It can pay big time to look at that when buying an American fridge with ice and water.
