Would you believe we have had this tumble dryer for 14 years. It has been brilliant other than I had to fit a new heater a couple of years ago. My wife is meticulous and is very thorough cleaning all of the filters including the big one at the bottom and door filters. The machine look in perfect showroom condition, today she used it for 3 lots of drying, when she started the 4 lot the drum turned 3-4 times then stopped. I emptied the drum turned the drum a couple of times, tried it again. The drum turned again a couple of times the stopped. This wonderful machine owes us nothing and I think if this is not an easy fix we will go for a new one. I realise john lewis goods are manufactured by various companies and I would not hesitate to buy the same manufacturer if it is necessary. You can see my old post on this forum from many years ago. This website is and always has been fantastic and has hundreds of people to save a lot of money thanks.

Hello Dave nice communicating with you again. I tried it empty, then pushed the drum round 2 turns, it started but then stopped after a couple of turns.

I thought with doing 3 dries in close succession it might be the motor overheating

    ok
I ssume when it stop and you give it a push it does not start

if yes my next test would be looking for power at the motor. if the motor is power but its not moving it must be the motor

I have just had a thought and decided to put a cup of water into the drum and try it,,, it works fine, forward and reverse, motor sound normal all lights are normal. There must be something not quite right somewhere, any ideas please I was going to look at some this weekend but I dont want to spend a load of money if I dont need to, things are hard enough without this.regards Russell..

I just thought it would indicate if the sensor was working OK. As I said in my previous message I put a damp towel in to try, everything seemed OK but it didn’t turn. It was on for 20 minutes and the towel want very damp.

1 damp towel is never enough as it may not touch the sensor

and machine is no setup to cope with liquid water, your likely to ruin it that way

Thanks for the comments Dave it seems I did a pretty stupid thing so on the basis it seems to be working is it a case of putting a proper load and then see what happens. Which machine in your opinion is worth considering heat pump or not,?

    depends on your budget

top of the tree miele followed by Bosch

Beko is worth looking and next to bottom hoover and hotpoint

bottom of the heap are the oddball makes and Bush which is a dont even think about as spares are non existant

electrolux , Zanussi and AEG (all the same company ) ar middle of the road. Easy spares access
