ParticipantGod how I hate these things! Any help please.
Had a similar problem last year with a similar model but never got to the bottom of it.
This above dryer flashes up error 51 and as we all know this is either a iffy motor, motor wires, or pcb or damp motor someone suggested in passed topics on this model. Tried a correct brand new 8uf motor capacitor too-no difference at all.
Problem: inconsistent motor action, sometimes it`ll start on the 30 min timed cycle used as the test cycle or jerky action then nothing. Start from cold once again may start and run great to the end-30 mins- sometimes won`t start at all-remove lid and hit x metal strut and the bloody thing starts up and MIGHT run a full 30 mins. No broken wires, no loose wires, possible iffy relays perhaps BUT there is no iffy solderings, doubt it`ll be the triac / thysistor as m/ch can run a full 30 mins. Has anyone had this before because to my mind it seems pretty obvious it is the pcb playing up. Ah but which bit is playing silly buggers? Any ideas please . New pcb £117, a rip off, so want to try and fix the board if possible.March 12, 2014 at 5:01 pm #411028electrofix

e51 fault is listed as triac fauly but it does not have to be short circuit just leaky. had one the other week on an auto washer swopped traic now ok. also the damp motor prob i have had a few times and it relates to an earth fault on the motor. megger the motor with it disconnected to look for readings
hope it helps

Thanks for reply. Good point. Any idea which triac. There is no heat sink on this pcb to pin-point.

diag shows motor connects to terms 9.1 9.3 and 9.4 on pcb
9.4 is commom 9.1 ans 9.3 is reverse connections. it is showing a relay that changes direction and feeding that relay is a triac
got tech info if you want it

Many thanks Dave for the info you e-mailed me. This job never really got resolved in the end as whatever I did seemed to cure the problem- I hit it around the pcb and apparently it has worked ever since: so the Murphy tv cure then!!!
