ParticipantHi all,
I have had a John Lewis JLWD1408 washer dryer for about 4.5 years now and until very recently, hadn’t had a single problem with it. Last month however it would occassionally decide not to spin at the end of the first washing phase of a normal 40 degree program. This wasn’t too much of a problem as I could get the machine to spin by just putting on the rinse cycle, however as the problem deteriorated, even on the rinse cycle it occassionally wouldn’t spin, giving no error code or hint as to why this might have been happening.
Fearing the worst (motor on it’s way out), I rang for an engineer to come round and have a look. His first thought was that it was the out of balance detection cutting the program short and that perhaps I had been running the machine heavilly or unevenly loaded (unlikely given the sudden increase in frequency of aborted cycles). But he reset the machine using some magical combination of buttons and dial twisting and hey presto! The machine hasn’t cut a cycle short at the first spin stage since.
BUT, last week my flatmate reported that the machine wasn’t draining properly and that the display was showing an E20 error code. A quick look on here showed that we were looking at a draining issue so i tipped the machine over and checked all the appropriate filters, hoses, pumps, etc. for blockages or obstructions… Nothing! Apart from a bit of scum on the filter, the machine was spotless. I then ran a quick 30 minute wash and the cycle completed without issue. Over the coming weekend I then ran a few loaded 40 degree washes and again, there were no problems.
I was beginning to think that what my flatmate saw was an isolated incident, but now she’s using the machine again she tells me that it’s still not draining when she puts the delicate wash cycle on (light loads). Any ideas what could be affecting the draining of this specific cycle and none of the others? Could the event earlier in the month be related? Also, does anyone know the magic formula for resetting the machine!? On my travels i’ve noticed that the JLWD1408 shares the same sigma fascia as some AEG/Electrolux models if that helps.
Any help would be much appreciated!!!

check the manual on some delicate cycles it stop full of water before spin to prevent creasing ( rinse hold )

Hi Dave,
I doubt an E20 error is part of the delicate cycle program! Also, when the error shows, the machine aborts the cycle.
Unfortunately, we’re now seeing the error on more and more of the available programs. If it’s not a blockage, and the pump is working fine, what else could be causing a draining error..?
