ParticipantHi all,
Been out twice to this JLWD1614 w/d, wasn’t draining and customer complained of the drying cycle timer skipping down, and not drying.
Sorted the draining issue, and checked the various thermostats/NTC on the dryer, seemed ok and there was heat. It did skip down but I thought that was because there was only one item in it being dried.
Second visit, drying timer still skipping down, so checked the humidity sensor and rechecked all the thermostats/NTC, they all seem to check out, serviced them to remove any fluff and serviced condenser unit (or tried to, practically impossible to get anything down there), but that made no difference.Told customer to use timed dry instead of auto dry
Anything else I should check before I blame the electronics?

Participantdid you do an earth leak test on dryer elements

ParticipantI always do an insulation test of the whole machine before I start work. Value was good.
Must admit when that is the case I don’t go and check the insulation of each component, so worth a shot.August 22, 2022 at 10:48 pm #483407electrofix
Moderatorcan send you the manuals but need your email
but as mikehha says always suspect element earth problems on these and its might change when hot

ParticipantSo I went back to this machine as there is still a problem. Checked the dryer heater insulation immediately after it aborts the drying cycle ( which is just as it starts to heat and happens on all cycles, whether timed or auto). It first gives me a low value, sometimes even 0, but after 1 second jumps to a good value.
Everything else checks out.
Is it indicative of an earth leak?
Unfortunately I totally forgot to do a diagnostic check

Moderatorif you get 0 on a heater I would suspect it was a problem
low insulation on these machine kicks up all sorts of problems
but it is a try it and see job

ParticipantI feared you might say that! Rather expensive try it and see on this machine as you can’t just change the dryer heater, you have to change the whole assembly.
I often get these readings, starts low but 1 second later, if that, is over 550MOhms, on machines that are perfectly fine…
Anyway the customer is going to have a think about it.

ParticipantThat’s where I’ll be getting it from if customers decide to go for it.
Still works out around £50 with VAT and P&P, and that’s without my cut. -
