Problem with drainage
WM only 2.5 years old. Washed a bobbly throw which disintegrated pretty much and ruined a load of clothes. I assumed the problem was blockage. Plumber unblocked drainage hose and showed me how to do it myself. I followed the JL manual and manually drained and checked the filter. All clean. I ran a drain cycle but it stopped after 20 mins with Error code E20. Have just tried a rinse and spin but again E20 after 20 mins. There is now water in the drum and as I can’t find any more blockages I am assuming something has gone wrong with the pump? No idea whether to call the service out or not (3 yr guarantee runs out in Dec this year). Will they charge me if it’s a blockage? Are there any other parts I can unscrew to check e.g. the hose on the opposite side to the drain hose at the back of the machine?
Am thinking I am running out of options and the launderette is not v convenient!

Almost certainly badly blocked internally. You will or should be charged as this is not a fault with the machine. Not sure if this one is a Zanussi based machine as most John Lewis are.

The last two Zanussi made machines I had with this problem had to be completely stripped down and the drum split to clear them out. You may get lucky and just need the main sump hose between the outer drum and the pump unblocking. Some later Zanussi machines have sealed drums so are impossible to get into.

EDIT, just checked, it is a Zanussi and does have a split drum. Also model is about six years old.

Could you explain exactly how I would check the sump hose? I know i need to drain the water out again which takes ages, and then do I tip the machine back to look underneath? I’m not sure where it is or how to do this have looked at other posts but is this washing machine different to other ones? Thanks.

Plumber….plumber. Grrrrr. 😈

Why on earth would you call a plumber to fix a washing machine. You wouldn’t send for a washing machine engineer to fix your broken loo or faulty tap now would you? 😉

The best way to access the sump hose is to lie the machine down on its left hand (from front) side.

Protect the floor with a few large towels first, and make sure you do lot let any water splash onto the motor etc.
