Hi everyone! I’m a newbie on here & will be very grateful for any help you can give me with my leaking John Lewis washing machine (JLWM1413).

My John Lewis washing machine has a leak inside which is setting off the antiflood device. I’ve taken off the back and top of the washing machine and could see that the original leak was coming from the black pipe going into the back of the detergent dispenser draw (see link to photo – it’s the top pipe going into fitting labelled 1). I tried loosening the original wire clip & pushing the pipe on because it looked like it had loosened a bit, but it still leaked. I have now replaced the wire clip with a hose clip (as you can see on the photo).

This stopped the leak from that point, but now its leaking from the bottom connection of the same black pipe!

I could change the wire clip at the bottom where it’s leaking to a hose clip, if I can get at it, but I’m now worried whether there’s high water pressure in that pipe due to some other issue, such as a blockage elsewhere? I don’t want to cause more damage to the washing machine.

I haven’t used the detergent dispenser for detergent or conditioner for years (as I put what I use directly into the drum with the dirty clothes) so doubt that there’s a blockage due to any build up of gunk in the detergent dispenser.

I’m losing confidence in my ability to mend my washing machine, so will be very grateful for any suggestions or advice that could help!

I’m willing to get out a proper repair person if that’s what’s needed, but I could really do without the cost at the moment if possible. Thank you for any help you can give me

Where that pipe fits the dispenser jet nozzle there will be a blockage – so not in the hose itself. It will be a lime blockage. Several ways to cure: you can remove the hose from the valve end put you gob to that hose and blow through it, if with difficulty that proves the point!! You can pour very carefully some Kilrock kettle descaler into the hose and leave for 10 mins just be mega careful not to let go of the pipe otherwise you can get the hose flicking kilkroick everywhere including over you so not really recommended. OR better still, remove hose off dispenser jet and gently poke a thinish screwdriver to break the blockage in the jet. OR even better you can replace that nozzle part but that means you have to dismantle the whole soap box unit to fit the new part. the part number is 1325021101 £19 called a conveyor pipe union. This was based on product code 91453412400 which you do not state. Your john Lewis JLWM1413 is a really a Zanussi / electrolux. Look up your version of your product code on either site though I looked it up on the electrolux spares site.

Thanks so much for your reply & all your helpful suggestions Andyjawa. 🙂
I’ve done what you suggested with the descaler (carefully & without any accidents!) & the screwdriver. I ran a short wash & unfortunately it’s still leaking at the lower junction of the black tube, although less than before. Could change lower wire clip to hose clip but still not sure that’s good idea? Or have another go with the descaler? You mentioned changing the conveyor pipe union but that it would mean dismantling the whole soap box. Is this a job you think a novice like me is capable of undertaking & if so do you happen to know if there are any instructional videos I could follow? Or do I need to bite the bullet & get in a professional?!
Thanks again for sharing your knowledge & expertise. 😀
