Jaded

Moderators/Anyone.
Hotpoint built-under freezer model 6956 (1997ish).
The motor/compressor sometimes judders loudly on switching off. Is it possible that the m/c suspension springs (or however it is mounted) need replacement?

KeymasterAlmost certainly a sign that the compressor is on it’s way out, could last two minutes or it could last two years Jaded there’s no way to know as it’s a sealed unit. If it does go you’d be looking at ~£150-200 to replace the compressor so not economically viable I’d say. It’s not a DIY job by any stretch, you need specialist tools and equipment.

Thanks for your reply. I’m disappointed but that’s life.
You might be amused to know that this is the unit concerned in the saga of ‘Coolfreeze of Northampton’ etc under ‘parts enquiries’; so I have lost out all ways.

KeymasterYes I’ve been watching the Coolfreeze thing, take Dave’s advice and let trading standards deal with it I say.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings. 🙁

Folks.
The unit is still running, (new ‘stat working well). However, on past experience, it is bound to fail during the Christmas/N Y period! Using the Boy Scout principle, I would like to be prepared and know what to buy next. Would some of you knowlegeable people be prepared to advise on a replacement unit/manufacturer? please. (NB 600mm built-under)

KeymasterIn all honesty J I don’t think there’s a lot to choose between them, but Don may be able to tell you abit more in the morning.

Unless you go for a Bosch group, Electrolux group or a Miele they’re all pretty much the same Jaded really.
Most made in the same factory with a different name on them.

Gentlemen, thanks. I don’t mind paying out if I am reasonably confident of buying fair quality.
