ParticipantNot only did the cash point swallow one of my debit cards today for no reason I now seem to have a brand new dishwasher that doesn;t work.
I did post some time ago about my Whirlpool not working and seeming to have given up after almost a decade. I then decided to try old fashioned hand washing. That came to a head today and I decided ‘no more’. So I bought a Bosch – went to store and got it put into my campervan – I wanted a dishwasher there and then. female madness you might call it. A rush….
Having then struggled for over an hour to simply clear obstacles from the back of the house and neighbours garden (right of way tht way) I managed to get it into the house. Moved the old one with more hassle and more time.
Then the darned electricty plug is now sealed so struggle for an hour to make a very unprofessional hole in work surface with the other half’s leatherman whilst trying to keep all 4 of my cats from sneaking behind the newly formed ‘gap’ to nocats land.
I then was very pleased having conneted all the bits and read instruction manual several times and then not rushing the installation positioned it carefully and connected the mains. Lights came on and I am excited. Filled salt thing with water and salt.
Then filled with some dirty dished… (bliss………….)
Pressed ‘quick’ button (29 minutes – even more bliss)
BUT………… on 28 minutes the ‘check water’ light came on and stayed on and nothign happened. I checked manual list of problems associated with this error and lines not kinked and water on. I checked which way blue lever supposed to be on. Reset and still same thing happens each and every time.
Then tried to get some obnoxious jobsworth on main number to let me speak to store (Currys) so could chat away in welsh to thhem so I’d make myself clear. They said I could phone them. The jobsworth was so not having it – horrible person. Anyhow I somehow got him to re-think his strategy of not allowing me to speak to store and got through. they did not know what problem was but said it would cost 20 pounds ish to get it ‘fitted’.
ANYHOW………….. all of above except for the code ‘check water’ is irrelevant. I am now starting to think perhaps the old Whirpool was not broken nd that soeething to do with the actual water (???) was problem? Too much of a coincidence otherwise for this one also not to work – different model and all.
So what coud it be – If the copper pipe is on (blue lever flat) what else could it be? Blocked pipe???
Another question I wanted to ask was whether this new Bosch model ‘motor’ that attaches to the house water pipe needs to be positoned a particular angle. Mine is horizontal inline with horizontal water pipe at the moment….
Hope you can help. Am phoning Bosch tomorrow but not got great hopes as they’ll most likely tell me what the manual says?
Thanks 🙁

The blue plastic tab can cause a myriad of ptoblems…. It cracks up the inside – turning “on” may not turn the tap on. Unscrew the tab and pull it off, then make sure that the two flats on the stub are in line with the flow. If they are at 90 degrees to the flow, the water is not turned on. Pliers…..
Good luck,

you are a genius! 💡
I checked the end part and turned the blue elevr.. nothing. The metal block thing (like a ball?) did not move and obviously stops water going through. Many many thanks.
Am I right now to presume I can take this end bit off completely and siply connect dishwsher part to the end. Do I need a cut-off thing if all it does it seems is cause problems? I have another cut-off cold water to (again blue lever!!) under the sink along with the hot water one. Or should I buy another end piece with a new blue lever gizzmo thing?
Thanks and love you lots and lots!!

Ideally, you should replace the supply tap. For the moment, take the blue tab off and turn the water on with a pair of pliers.

Just now managed to mop up the floods. now am concerned that the washing machine may be ‘contaminated’ bat its back y water spouting across from the aforementioned pipe.
Silly me not thinking of switching water off (somewhere).
So – how long do electrics need to ‘dry’ out if you think water got too close??
also how long should it take for water to shhut off.. have switched off mains water now and am running all cold water pipes. have switched off boiler and hot water / heating.
argh………. him indoors not too impressed with me at the moment – and his food is cold. Have filled up couple of buckets with cold water for tomorrow morning before work…. argh again.
what else can I do wrong????

Oooooooooh dear. Personally, I would have fitted the fill hose to the tap first.
If you have sprayed some water across the back of the machine, it will probably be fine. If you flooded vast amounts of water into the base section, it may need tipping to drain the water and left to stand for a couple of days.
I take it hubbie has no mechanical aptitude? That said, MrsP is the plumber in our house.
Good luck.

I hate to say it considering the mess I’ve made so far but nope he hasn’t got much diy skills… usually string and glue! Having said that he did coe rushing to the rescue and despite the stupid pipe not wanting to close back did manage to close it. My punishment was having to clean the foor behined (yuKkkkk!!) and mop up floods. It has strangey cheered him up to see me make a mess of something (for a change it is not him!! 😉 )
so water slowly draining …. leaving water off overnight and suffering the cold bath I’ve filled. Then I guess I need to get another cut-off valve blue lever thing?? Don’t fancy taking dishwasher pipe off ever again without a working cut-off thingie. Is there aa better quality one than this not-so-brilliant blue one (was not that old either!!)
now am having glass of wine…………………

have I done something wrong that the cold water is still coming out of taps…? Pressure seems less thn normal and cistern to toilet takes longer to refill. Still taking flippin ages… normal or not ???

wel today I bought a new metal thing and the hardware shop explained about th ‘olive’. The old one was stuck but I managed to get it off using some female ingenuity and not breaking anything.
I also managed to eventually drain the water but for some reason it kept filling up a bit when I shut taps (overnight and again this aternoon). Air lock or something else?
Now I managed to fit the new connector although did struggle to figure out how to ‘grasp’ the larger piece to stop it from turning – so I let it turn and fortunately it ended a sensible position facing me. Phew. (is right next to wall so had a bit of a squeeze twirling round)
Anyhow I watched it and let water back on – looked good. watched longer… looked good – even got dishwasher connected – good. Diswhasher on – good …….. BUT after about 15 mins or so I noticed one small drop forming – seems to take this long for one drip….
Is this a massive problem? It is dripping the ‘bolt’ side onto copper pipe not the longer piece.
Does this mean I have to panic. Can I leave it for a couple fo days until I either try again or get a plumber??? seems a shame for a plumber to charge me a fortune when I got soooo close!. I guess I’ll have to drain again, disconnect and connect again… using this white tape thing??
Is the white tape any good or just a sign of a botched job??
Help!
Thanks

or si there the simple possibility I have not tightened it enough? Thought I used plenty of (female) force. I am a bit fearful of seeing if I can tioghten it further as the mains water is back on – should I drain again, disconnect everything again to tighten or not??

It will just need tightening. Turn the water supply off to be safe, but don’t worry about draining everything down. You need two grips, btw; one to lock the tap body and one to turn the nut.
