ParticipantHi,
i have a BU82 (hotpoint)and think the thermostst has broken as the red light to indicate it is still heating to reach the chosen temperature is not going off an the oven just gets hotter! is this going to cost a lot to repair? it is only 18 months old and we didn’t take out an extended warranty cos cookers never break …!!!thanks in advance for your advice

Anything from the Indesit company will break…….
1)Top or bottom oven?
2)With the oven cold, turn the thermostat knob – you should hear a faint click almost immediately. If you don’t, or the click is off around the dial somewhere, the thermostat is at fault.Regards,

A bti more info!
Itis the bottom fan assisted oven that is playing up.When cold i can hear the faint click just as the dial goes beyond the defrost symbol. However i have left the dial pointing at 100 and given it 10 mins to reach temp and the light is not going out and the temp is very hot, smoke billowing out!!! I have turned the dial back towards the off position and the light will go out with a faint click around the defrost symbol just before getting to the off position.
I know my cooking is bad but this is beyond a joke!
I take it from your comment that Indesit are not that reliable then!!! 😆
any more advice would be appreciated. WIll i need to get an engineer out for this one?
Thanks again

Thermostat is the most likely culprit – p/no 6222155 – an email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk for prices and ordering if you wish to do this yourself.
We can’t give you a blow by blow account of how to do it, but it is basically a screwdriver job.
If you’re not sure, click the link below for a UKW engineer in your area. It’s typically an hours work, plus the cost of the thermostat (c.£35 from memory).
Power off if investigating further,
Regards,
