Participantwent out to a frost free integ with a defrost problem advised customer that as the heater was faulty i would have to order a new one and before i fit it that they would have to perform a manual defrost for 24 hrs before fitting . My collegue returns a few days later fits the new heater and presents them with bill ,he is then asked by the customer whom he needs to speak to to make a claim for food loss :rolls: apparently the previous engineer (me) had told him to defrost it ,so he had leaving all the food inside 😯 and i hadnt told them they would need to empty it first , i kid you not . Don’t worry, I’ve got to a job on Thur – Fault fridge/freezer defrosts during the winter months – tried my best to explain the probable fault… Customer still insists that I come out and check the appliance and explain it to her again…. :rolls: OK, I ask Make= Frididair, Model =can’t find it. Is it a frost free model or do you have to defrost it manually…(.wait for it ) No there’s no frost in it because it defrosted in the last cold spell… Ok, do the instructions say you have to defrost it regularly???, answer, I don’t know because it’s always fails every winter and it defrosts itself…. Ok poor lady probably doesn’t know what a frost free is but she wasn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Years ago back in the early 80s when I worked at Bosch I went to a call with a reported fault of dishwasher breaking dishes, it was a huge house in Hampstead owned by the Nigerian Government I think it was their ambassadors house. Any way got in there and the kitchen staff were all busy working, one member of staff took me into a utility room to see the dishwasher, when I got there it was a washing machine
Yep that’s right they were putting dishes in the washer and it was breaking them. the kitchen staff were all new to modern machines and thought it was the dishwasher, apparently the staff in the kitchen were changed every time a new ambassador came over, none of them had ever seen a dishwasher in Lagos.
That for me was the daftest thing any customer has done in my time in the trade.February 3, 2010 at 2:49 pm #310831lee8

I had a customer who stated she checks the pockets of the clothes, argued black and blue that she did it everytime and still it was not her fault the spark plug from her mechanic husbands pocket which lodged itself on the drum was a design fault.

Went to a student house for a Landlord once who was moaning that the d/w was not washing the dishes correctly.
Explained might be the spray arms, heater or wash motor.
I really should of taken a picture as the reason the d/w was not working was that to save money the students were using the d/w as a washing machine and placing there clothes below the bottom basket and in turn stopping the arm from turning !! 😯

Was called to a house where..I Kid you not.. the old lady told me the washing machine was faulty because it kept filling up and then emptying :rolls:
Could not convince her it was meant to do that, I can still remember her wrath at my incompetence… 😯

You’ve got to love the oldies, 😆
I had one with a Hotpoint tumble dryer, complained it wasn’t drying correctly.
I asked if she had cleaned out the filter at the back of the drum. She insisted she cleaned it out after every load.
I removed it and found an inch thick layer of fluff that looked like a wedge of felt. 😯 She thought that was the filter and just removed the thin top layer of newly deposited fluff and stuck it back in 😀
Another one complained of machine taking hours to dry, she said ” I put it on for 15 minutes and it hasn’t dried, so I keep putting it back on for another 15 minutes and it is taking me hours & hours to get them dry. :rolls:

No one is gonna believe this one :rolls: but here goes…
Another old lady insisted her Hoover upright Vac was broke because when she switched it on it did’nt make any sound.
I had to shout VERY LOUDLY to her that it was indeed working just fine, to which she replied….
“Ay, yer what, speak up sonny”! 😯

Doing a job for GBDAR…
Hot valve not closing so machine was drip, drip, drip for 48 hours max. Two half drum fulls of water. The customer wanted to know who she could complain to. I asked why.
To claim the money back she lost in hot water. 😯February 5, 2010 at 9:41 pm #310838washermanuk

If I wasn’t in the industry I would believe these to be fabricated.
I’ve been in the industry long enough to know that there are many many numpties around.
I just had a call from some idiot, 9.35pm and he wants to pop his Hoover Tumble dryer round to my place, now.
First word on the phone he speaks “Hi Mate”, so I no its one of those dciks, so I’ve just trebled the labour charge to which he replies “your having a laugh mate”, yes I am, goodbye and hung up. 😆
Which is why my adverts never have my correct address. 😉
I had some woman a few months back ring me at 7pm, didn’t answer but listened to the message, “I’ve just tried to drop my Iron at your address but I cannot find the building, can you contact me ASAP as I should be near you”.
My Sister is a mobile hairdresser and has the same issue with a certain {e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the population.
I’m curious as to why these idiots believe we work at night. 😯

A year ago I went to the home of a local celeb who’s washing machine needed a new pump.
He was out but his missus was there and I did the job, charged £60 and left.
A few months later, Im called back to SAME 5 year old machine but the guy is angry because his NEW washing machine has broken down and his wife has lost the receipt, and anyway she won’t wait for whirlpool to call out!..
I, of course am a tad puzzled but this guys wife is pulling face’s at me, big eyes 😯 at me and looking 😳
So I placate the guy and once he leaves the room she hurriedly explains that she had £300 off him for a new machine after my last visit and he was oblivious!
I, of course, as a gentleman was bound to keep quite, patient confidentiality and all that, but i did manage to share in the proceeds 👿
and you thought all the action was down at Listeria Lane !
