I had wanted and tried to source the Bosch fridgefreezer KGV36V10 224L 87L non frost free with about 224L, 87L.

I had no luck so found this Nordmende fridge freezer RFF 365 non frost free at the same price that the Bosch was priced at. The Nordmende has a 3 year parts and labour warranty that (suggests) it’s components and construction is of a fair standard…maybe. It looks like a Gorenje inside from what I’ve seen of that range, maybe it’s a rebrand of that line, it’s a big maybe.

I am looking at the followling, all with similar capacities but are frost free.

    The Bosch Classix KGH39V03

    The LG GR359NQ.

The Samsung RL38SC SW frost free, seems to be new model.

    The Siemens KG32 frost free.

I am concerned about the extra layer of technology of frost free units, which have more parts to fail and sit down, but maybe I am being too worried about nothing…

In terms of future repair, I can manage most jobs if not requiring very specialist tools, and know that you don’t support that level of job with any advice anyway as it’s in the realm of a tech.

So, I can get the Nordmende easily, and it suits me perfectly if I can source control boards or sensors that might sit down in the future.

Any advice would be greatly welcome.

I did manage to engage a fix on a Zanussi washer dryer that was showing an ever more frequent error code. The fix would have been a new board, but it just needed several contacts cleaned for communication ribbon cables to work.

That fix solution was from a tech posting on a forum. Saved me more then a small charge I think!!

Great site you have here. It helped me choose an Electrolux cooker and Siemens dishwasher for the girlfriend.

Just hope to god that for your sake the Whitegoods are better than their Browngoods, we used to call them No mend Nordmend in the Trade for very good reason, have to be fair I haven’t worked on their Whitegoods so can’t comment on them but just be warned.

Thanks Specialist, I edited my post to also show units I would jump at if I can get a solid bit of advice.

After reading this forum a lot, I decided against a frost free fridge, but can’t find anything with the capacity that I need that is not frost free.

I am more inclined toward the other models I listed if anyone can point me toward something that would be most reliable with parts easy to find in a few years. The Normende is a great price and very attractive with it’s full 3 year guarentee. I’m not seeing parts availabilty for it online and can’t find who makes it as yet.

I may be wrong but i would have thought that the Bosch was a good bet, for long life & spares availability.

If i’m wrong no doubt the boys will bend my ear over it, glad you decided on discretion regarding Nordmende. 🙂

An update on my fridgefreezer search.

A friend got the static version of the Nordmende I was asking about here, I’d been talking about it at length. I have to say it’s a very nice machine for the price. The finish inside is better then a several others I’d looked at, it’s got strong glass shelves with anti spill rims, very strong door shelfing which is better then in many. The bottom freezer drawer comes out and has little ramp that fits to floor of freezer so when defrosting it acts as a bucket, which stops water going anywhere else, I hadn’t noticed that when looking at it before, and it’s really handy.

It has 3 year guarentee, and the user instruction manual is printed in only English and German, that was something new that I hadn’t expected.

It would seem they are happy to market this product back to the country of origin of it’s branding, so they must have a lot of confidance in it’s quality.

One last sticking point was if it was noisy, I could find no information listed anywhere for these fridges, but it’s not, it’s the usual sometimes faint murmer of coolent and hum of motor, both seeming very low to my ears. I have my own new Normende beside a Simens dishwasher rated at 47db beside it which is very quite, and it’s no lounder to my ears, so that’s fine. And it’s no louder then my old and still working Hotpoint 12 or more year old static, just too small these days for me.

I feel by sticking with a static freezer and having a machine with a 3 year guarentee, that for my money I done ok. I couldn’t get a big enough Bosch which was my first choice, but am now very happy with this machine as it’s much better quality on the inside then comparable Bosch fridgefreezers I was looking at. From what I have learned, this Normende line of machines is unique in manufacture to the major Irish whitegoods distributer KAL so not related to other Normende product lines unless KAL is listed as marketing company.

Time will tell, thanks again for you help. And to this site for it’s education.
