    Hi,

I have a (second-hand) K84A-8. Here are the numbers on the back:
    Part no. E200777, Serial M035803 R89
    Refrigerant: R12 100kg
    Climate Class N

Recently this was defrosted. A day or so after being turned back on again, the freezer section stopped working. The fridge is still working fine: in fact, I found a bit of frost build-up in it, but I think that was just because it had accidentally been turned up to a high setting.

Inside the freezer section there is a bit of frost just where the pipe enters the back of the unit, but after that there is no frost, and the freezer feels warmer than the fridge section when the door is opened.

The only other problem with the unit is the light doesn’t work, but this has been the case for a ages. Also, a few months ago it got quite noisy for a while after being moved, but that seemed to sort itself out.

Is there anything I can do/test myself, or will this require a professional (or new unit)?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

If the motor is running constantly then I’m afraid it’s time for a new unit as it will have a sytem problem.

As R12 gas is used it would suggest the unit is well inexcess of 10 years old.

    Dave.
