ParticipantCustomer says she was making buns while the mixer running, turned her back for a bit then returned to see smoke coming out while running.
What could that be? Is it summat I can fix without removing all the mechanical parts?
Can anyone also supply details of anyone who repairs these in the midlands
(edited into a single post)
Thanks

Capacitor caught fire or motor itself fully baked. 🙁

Hey Twick: If memory serves there’s a toothed drive belt fitted to them & it can slip with age when under a heavy load, a bit of stripping down to do but not beyond doing. The other thing that causes the same sort of problem is the 2 motor caps, there’s 1x 0.15uF & 1 x 0.047uF & they can burn up after years of use. Not sure if I’ve still got the service manual / notes on Disc but will take a look in the morning for you.

thanks specialist, will wait tomorrow and see what you can come up with.
My limited expereinces on Kenwood chef are my wife’s kenwood chef but it was a simple mains lead change as the old one was all brittle with grease. Found an good length of Dyson lead and used it for the kenwood chef. Feeling rather pleased with the result. People commented on why there’s a grey Dyson moulded plug on the kenwood chef.
A good starting point for conversation for like minded blokes.
I had another request about 2 years ago from a long standing customer, turned out that the brushes were worn and pointed her to a specialist in the Midlands. Turned out that the repair costed her £20 and out of that she had new flex, brushes, new greasing, etc and the result she had an almost as new Kenwood Chef. It was the same model as mine which is A701 – Made in the 1970’s (I think).
this current job I am enquiring about was referred to me by a good electrician. People seem to phone him thinking he would repair Oven, kenwood chef and the odd treadmill. He simply pointed them to me. I get all those weird jobs! The treadmill is the weirdest one of them all.

Hi mate: Nothing wrong with repairing Treadmills, you sometimes get the bonus of seeing a nice fit bird test them out when you’ve done the repair. To be honest I’ll look at most things electrical / electronic when they go faulty, adds to the fun of the job.

Weirdest I ever got asked to look at was an egg incubator and chiropodists’ pressure cooker autoclave.April 15, 2013 at 12:52 pm #393566Specialist01269

Autoclaves can be a pain to work on (Literally) but the things I hate most are Macerators. Yuck not nice :eeek: , but I charge extra for fixing them 🙂 so it’s not all bad.
Twick: Sorry mate I can’t find my disc with the service manual for the A901 at the minute, take a look at it anyway. Bet you don’t have manuals for the majority of stuff you repair & If you can fix a Dishwasher, you can sure fix a mixer.April 15, 2013 at 4:50 pm #393567twicknix

Cheers. I love sink macerators but not had the pleasure to repair one. I think every household should have them.

Hi Twick: Think you got the wrong end of things mate 😮 I don’t mind garbage disposals at all, it’s the Toilet & Disabled Facility ones I was thinking of. Believe me they’re not nice I keep Disposable overalls, Surgical Gloves, Goggles, Air freshener & Surgical hand scrub in my kit ready for when I get called to do 1 😆
