ParticipantHi Everyone,
Hope you’re well. I have an issue with my Kenwood CK404 Range Cooker. Unfortunately, 3 years ago the main oven and ignition for the gas hobs stopped working, i was preparing food and all of a sudden the oven made a large bang noise and tripped the fuse box, when we turned the electricity back on, the main oven and gas ignition did not come on. However, the small side oven still functioned, we did not get this issue repaired. About 6 months ago, i was annoyed with the oven not working, i pushed the range cooker and all of a sudden the main oven and ignition started functioning, i was happy to see it working, i turned on the main oven and it started heating up. However, after 15 minutes of the main oven being on, it went off again with the ignition too, this time it did not turn off the fuse box. Last week, i did some research into why this incident occurred and found that a potential part could be faulty or burned out, one main part was the main oven selector switch, i ordered a new one and installed it, but still the main oven and ignition did not function. I need your help please in diagnosing this problem.
Many Thanks,

Moderatorthe selector swich would not have affected the gas ignition, have you checked the terminal block where the cable is connected

Moderatornot much else
got to be a dodgy connection on a feed that supplies both itemsone question though
when it goes off does other electrical items work on the cooker
just trying to work out if you have a power problemDave

ParticipantWith our cooker we only have a switch not a switch with the socket, so i can’t check the power. However, the small oven still works perfectly and the light on the switch still comes on.
When the initial bang noise happened with the Main Oven, could that have been the thermal cutout exploding ?

Moderatorwell the little oven working means its not power to the unit
most of the time when ovens go bang its an element going but yes it could be a stat, chaffed wire
have found a wiring diagram and it makes me scratch my head more
the ignition system is shown picking up the live from the main oven but the neutral from the top one which means it should not be affected if a cutout blows
think this may be a chaffed wire
turn it off and inspect the wires from the terminal block that go into the hob area for damage
