I know this model seems to come up a lot, and mostly for the same thing.
Once again I had the E4 error come up on the machines display.
I tipped it back, drained the water and took off the side, exposing where a clip had failed and the waste water was being pumped into the base of the machine, setting off the flood alarm and the E4 error message.
    However….

Once this work was completed and the machine put back together I tried to select a program and I couldn’t.
The door closed with a click, so no problem there.
When the door is opened and the power turned on at its own switch the display would illuminate and then go to the default -:– with no response from the program select button.
When I switch it on with the timer/delay button pressed to goes to some test mode, responding to the press of the program key but only to drop the display from showing 18 to displaying the number 17, before it rattles of, with the door closed, through a variety of rinsing and pumping.

In no way can I select a program at all, but the buttons do seem to respond, though only in the circumstances described.
The door lock does click, so that’s not the issue.
And the source of the water in the base has been taken care of.

Despite this being a common issue there are no solutions online at all for this, though I am sure someone out there must have repaired this issue previously.

Sadly the machine is out of warranty so a repair is my only choice at this stage.

    Thanks

The usual thing for this is an earthing heater although if its had a load of water in the base then it may just need a thorough drying out. Unusually you can often get them to program and run if you select a program immediatelyafterturning it off then quickly turning back on before the display fades out altogether!

I did have one with an earth fault that would only work when the door was open 😯
