kenwood KMD60X19 fridge freezer ice build up and drainage problem

kenwood KMD60X19 fridge freezer
just over year old
noticed pool of water on floor, under corner of bottom freezer drawer
opened bottom drawer. floor is ‘ridged’ and noticed ice build up in the ‘valleys’ of the floor
suspect water/ice migrates to the front, melts at the seal and seeps out
no other water under the unit
checked drainage tray at rear and bone dry
previously checked this through the year and typically had an amount of water in it
flowed hot water through what i *suspect* is drainage point in fridge (say *suspect*, as there’s just some awkward grille affair and what might be a drain behind)
nothing emerged in drainage tray, but more water seemed to appear on floor of freezer area (if that wasn’t the water poured in, then no idea where it went!)
no obvious drainage hole in the freezer
freezer area has vertical panel with some vents to distribute cold air. this has screws. removed screws to see if could remove panel and check for drain, but it didn’t want to easily come off, so left it
also tried to clear the drainage hose at the drip tray end by using a very long and sturdy zip tie. popped the hose off and inserted the zip tie in the protruding spout, but it met something immovable within a couple of centimeters and that was that
i suspect some drainage problem, but no idea how to tackle further!
the manual doesn’t even make mention of the drain!
any advice, much appreciated

tackled this again. vertical panel came away easily this time. found the drainage hole plugged with ice. melted it and solved the problem

Do you have photos of where to find drainage hole, having similar issues with small amounts of water on floor, cannot find anything that looks like a drainage hole or hose.
are these behind the back panel of the freezer or located at the back of the freezer on the outside
struggling to find any point to access this hole/hose any pointers greatly appreciated.

lyn, if you’ve got the exact same model, then inside the freezer section, there’s a vertical panel at the back. it’s the thing with vents
this panel has screws. remove the screws and gently coax the panel off
might take a bit of coaxing by wiggling and pulling. take it steady, as there are some cables to disconnect, so you don’t want to go too hard and rip them out
they’re fairly easy to disconnect/reconnect, though you might want to take a photo for reference
once the panel is off, the drainage hole is immediately obvious at the lowest point
in my case, the drainage hole was frozen, with ice over the top
i just poured warm water over the ice and that solved it

good news!
why not more accessible is beyond me!
one of those simple things that may need attention from time to time
i guess not mentioned in the manual, as it’s behind that awkward panel and the expectation is to call out an (expensive) engineer to do a very simple job (once you’re past the panel!) you can easily manage yourself
interestingly, haven’t had any bother since de-icing that one time and hope that’s you sorted, too… but now you know how to do it, if there is a next time, you’ll indeed be straight to it
