ParticipantHi guys, had this fridge 2 years 2 months, from Currys.
compressor runs, condensing coils not warm/hot to touch.
evaporator only has 3 inches of cold tubing with slight frosting,
evaporator is internal based at bottom of fridge.
compressor is hot to the touch.
Evaporator fan runs as before.
Could it be the coils are clogged internally?
Been told by a local tradesperson its the compressor, charged me £75 callout fee and than said he couldnt work on it due to regulations?
Unfortunately did not buy a careplan from know how.
Apparently the manufacturer warranty is up.(Surprise surprise)Any advice on repairs?
Thanks

to be honest
scrap it and buy a new one.
its either lost gas in which case it got a leak and recharging it would not fix this so it will do it again
or
its the compressor and that means a refrigeration engineer has to weld a new one in and gas it up again. All needing skill and the correct fridge gas qualificationskenwood is not the name it was and the unit is probably a Chinese built unit with the typical low end Chinese quality

Yes unfortunatley its looking to be that way, surprising Kenwood are representing them selves in this way.
Id still want to know what the cost of repairs could be if anyone with experience would know, its a shame the rest of the fridge shouts quality apart from this.It still looks new!

search here
http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/search/fi … e-engineer
find an engineer who can do fridge work
get a price for a new compressor and fitting
also ask about re gas if its that ( bear in mind if it needs re-gassing then its got a small leak then in 2 years it will do it again)

Ok, would it really take 2 years for the leak to stop the fridge working?
Maybe the unit was damaged upon delivery and we never picked the fault up at the time. I might in that case have an argument to build a case with currys, could be a long shot.
The pipe work at the back by the compressor has some scale residue and i reckon its been leaking from there.April 19, 2018 at 9:17 pm #455479electrofix

scale is probably flux where the pipe have been brazed
and yes a small leak can take as long as it takes. If it is a leak and not a compressor then it may have been running 27/7 for a few weeks or longer because its so low on gas it cant get down to temp (wasting power)
you could try curry’s its worth a try
what you are trying to prove is the appliance is ” not of merchantable quality” and or “Not fit for purpose” which is a tall order over 2 years oldDave
